under 30 bucks if your asking about the gauge

QUESTION:
not that i really care about looks but would a GTS cluster bolt up even though it's shaped diff? i don't need things too look perfect and the kick panel is removed so there is tons of space (trying to avoid aftermarket cluster)
oh ok thanks

i was just thinking about the same question too [very curious abt it]

Hello era167, Yes. It was plug & play. The same electric wire plugs that connect to your current cluster will plug into the cluster with tach. No wire modifications necessary. Look at the link that Toyotaboyfreak attached earlier. That is what I used as a guide. One thing I noticed is that the gas gauge ALWAYS shows the fuel level even with the car off. The old cluster only showed the fuel level with the key in it. Good luck!:D

that's one of the thing i like about the cluster, it always shows your gas level even when the car is off and no key in it. the cluster with no tach pisses me off because it takes a long time to show your gas level, its really s l o w:thumbsdow. i havent replaced my cluster still though, i still dont have a cluster with a tach, i was just at pick your part earlier but no luck finding a corolla with tach :disappoin

i know mine doesn't, i think it has something to do with the seatbelt sensor, but then again the seatbelt sensor only shows unlatched if your shoulder belt is not put on, so now that i think about it im not too sure.
yeah the wire is currently unplugged on mine, and it didnt make any changes at all.

like, are the bulbs plug and play or do you have to solder in the new led.
plug and play, but you have to test if you put it in right because the led has a positive and a negative and they wont work if you put them in wrong.

If you already removed the two screws holding that moulding on (one to the left of the steering wheel and the other on the right), then all you have now are those "popping" clips. Basically, yank the mounlding from the 12V outlet corner first. It should pop out. Then continue with the rest, I believe there's four clips. Just like you were taking the door panel off, the panel pops off, then you have to pop it back on. Except these are metal ones.
thanks!, yeah i have taken those screws out

i'm actually attempting to take the cluster off as i speak but just to replace the bulbs for right now, but i'm stuck, the plastic molding that holds the rear defoger switch, coin holder, and the a/c vents wont come off, it seems like something is holding it around the lighter, ashtray, and that black box's area, any tips? i really need help asap, thanks

if your just looking for a signal for an after-market tach it's in the diagnostic box on the side of the strut-tower closest to the distributor.

it should be olive-drab in color and the one terminal on the right by itself shoudl read (-)G i think it's the ground for the distributor ignitor and most (mine) work fine with that.
THANKS! i was wondering what that was, so if i get an aftermarket tach i just plug it in there?

The tach cluster and no tach cluster have different but similar "peanut" bulbs. The backlighting bulbs on the non-tach cluster (bulbs has black base w/ bulb), you can pull the little bulb out the black base and replace it. On the tach cluster (bulbs has gray base w/ bulb), I tried taking the glass bulb out, however the bulb wiring is soldered onto the base and made into one "bulb assembly". But you can use the black bases in the tach cluster which was what I did that way you can have LEDs.

As for LED bulbs, they're not that much brighter than regular bulbs. However, you do have a good choice of nice colors and they don't burn out or heat up.... mines are red :) Just go on eBay for the bulbs.
so i can replace the bulbs on the regular cluster with LED peanut bulbs? yeah i know what you are talking abt i hate those bulbs that is soldered to the gray plastic thing,i tried replacing the one on the 12v outlet but no luck lol.
