How to install Navigation App

You would need to add a lot of hardware to get built-in navigation. It's not as easy as installing a piece of software or app.

Agree completely that it's just lazy to keep the map button if it doesn't do anything without setting up other pieces that don't come with the car.

There are differing opinions about the usefulness of different maps, though. People get used to whatever they're comfortable with using and then want to keep using that. It's great that AA/CP offer that choice. Me, I'm not a fan of Google Maps on anything other than a PC, and I like the built-in nav that doesn't require a cellular data connection or messing with caching maps. Do whatever works for you, but not everyone hates the Entune maps. I'm glad to see Toyota is still working on improving the maps with the next-gen infotainment system.

Looking at parts.toyota.com, navigation has several additional parts. There's another box to install in the dash (item (1) in the first picture), along with an antenna module (item (3) in the second picture). The radio head units do have different part numbers as well based on trim level.

There's really nothing to activate. If the car coms with Navigation, it just works. There's no issue with license keys or anything like that until you decide you want to renew the Dynamic Navigation subscription after the first three years.
