I believe ya push on it and it ejects the card thats in it, more of an eject button than cover. No gurantees, just reads that way in the manual.

 

I tried that already and it didn't work. I could not find anything in the manual on how to open the SD Card slot but I will try again and maybe push in a little harder.

It doesn't say in so many words how to "open the cover", but pushing on the SD card to eject it is a separate step. I haven't done it on my truck, but I believe you would carefully pry that cover open somehow.

Found this in the archives.

"Installation couldn't have been easier (2017 Toyota Avalon). Turned off car, removed original micro SD card (I needed a small screwdriver to pry open the map data cover, it opens like a book with the hinged side on the left). Removed old card, inserted new card, and restarted car. The screen recognized that new softward was available and instructed me to turn the car off and then back on to start installation. The software loaded in less than 10 minutes with a progress bar to let you know the progress. Once installed everything worked normally."

The manual is very vague on it. It portrays it as being explanatory.
Just don't force it, I'm sure an owner will speak up.

 

I tried it on my truck sitting at a light this morning. I have the same head unit you do. I was feeling around for a place to try to pry it off, and by accident I found that if you press on the right end of the cover, it pops open from the left and then you can grab the left side. No tools needed.

 

I was just messing around recently and pushed a little on the far left or right side which seemed to open it. Will try to post a pic maybe tomorrow.

 

You have to push on the right like toto stated earlier. I did that and replaced the SD Card 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 Toyota Latest Navigation Micro SD Card 86271-0E072 and it made no diferemce. That is, it did not update the navigation system. Which tells me the SD Card that I had from 2018 is the most current one.

 

What is the best way to get newer software? I have only had my truck for a little over a month. I believe our '19 RAV4 Adventure updates on it's own.

NOTE: When I searched for OEM SD Card it stated they no longer supply them or out of stock for my 2018 Tacoma. When I get the next oil change I will ask them about any update navigation SD Card and if the one I have is current.

 

You simply pry the little cover open from the top, left corner then press on the SD card and it will pop out.

 

I already did it on Nov. 12, 2021.

 

No tools needed! Just press on the right end of the cover. Prying it open might damage it.

 

2016 Toyota Tacoma: Press on the right side of the micro door with your thumb nail and it will pop open & then press SD card to eject. Installed mine today, June 21, 2023.
