Hope someone can help me. Today I needed to check fluids under the hood. When I pulled the hood release everything seemed normal. I closed my hood , and decided to check something else under the hood.
I pulled the cable and heared a snap under the hood. I could not open the hood. I tried pulling the cable from inside the car and I got at least a foot of cable inside the car which I thought was not right.
I lifted the car, and the cable that was attached to the mechanism broke.
I do plan on replacing the part, my question about is is there any way I can open the hood from the outside.

Thank you very much

Not that I'm aware of. Then again, I haven't had a hood release cable break. That I can remember anyways! When you get to be around 50+, sometimes somethings are new again! LoL~!

Allan - lots of luck on this. Can not say about your car in particular, but I have opened a couple of cars over the years using a length of wood like perhaps a two foot length of broomstick. It all depends whether you can get a view of the latch from below. If so, place the stick against the end of the latch and push it upwards toward the opening side. It can help if someone is keeping a little lifting action to the hood so friction will help keep the latch from sliding closed again if you have to take pressure off the stick for repositioning of the next push. Once you get the safety latch pushed over you have it made.
You may have to remove the rock shield below the radiator to get a better view and work space from beneath.

Something like this happen to my Cressida. It blew a tire and shredded the cable and damage the lock.

I had to go underneath the car and remove the front metal plate underneath the bumper to gain access in the space between the bumper and radiator support. i was able to unbolt the entire hood lock while still lock, so I lifted the hood with the lock attached.

unfortunately after looking at some Gen3 engine bays (I don't have my friends car to look), the radiator support has sheet metal around the lock with the locking part exposed, so you can't simply just do that I believe....
