Hi,

I have a 98 camry, and I like it so much.
But recently, I found that there is some odd smell in it and I can't get rid of it by opening windows or putting fragrance in the car.
I also noticed that lots of old car have the similar odd smell.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this odd smell, and make the interior smell like a new one?
Thanks

get some aromoral and coat your dash and its most likely your seats they absorb EVERYTHING. get like 2 bottles of febreeze and a sponge and just wipe it down and spray and keep your windows down. u have to do it a few times to get the febreeze to penatrate the seat its probably realy in there. i has same problem i had to do it to the carpets too. i had a tempo that steamed up realy bad and seamed all hot and humid. just soak ur seats in febreeze at night keep windows open and just vacuum it like no other. and armoral yea.

Head to the parts store and get a can of vent spray. Hose the vents and heater/AC core with it. Bacteria, mildew and fungus here are the most common sources of smells. Febreeze the seats (get the regular stuff...not the automotive...same stuff, 20% more price. A friend at Proctor and Gamble, the makers, let me know they are the same thing).

check to see if there is a foam filter on the HVAC...it can hold a lot of nasty stuff too, but usually requires the dash to come almost completely out.

Follow up with a steam cleaning of the interior if that does not solve it. You can rent the ones from the grocery store if you do it right, or get a detailing shop to do it. Just be prepared to put plastic on the seats for a couple of days, or get used to people pointing and laughing at your wet ass.

Just get teh car detailed...tell the person NOT to do the headliner (for the reasons someone mentioned). Then just place a candle in the car for future reference. Also, don't forget to turn off ur A/c button a minute before u arrive at your destination (with the fan on low position, and a/c button to OFF - and recirculate the air - ie. open the vents). Doing such would dry up ny condensation in the vents that could be leading to that smell!

PS: stay off the taco's!

i am seriously the #1 febreeze fan... it works wonders
i smoke in my car and i dont want it to smell
and i febreeze at the end of the day and it smells pretty
so try that and leave the window cracked a lil bit
it should help

I heard febreeze leaves a nasty after-odour....
I'd say go for baking soda & vinegar....
Depends on what kind of smell though... Is it the fabric/leather? Is it coming from the vents?
If you have the habit of turning on the A/C right away and turning it off last minute when you shut off the car, it'll leave a bad condensation stench...

There are some smells you just cant get rid of though. My friend bought a jeep from a butcher. He used to haul a lot of meat in the back. The car smells like dry blood and saw dust. He had it detailed twice at 2 different places and still no help. So he tried the febreezing method about 4 times. And STILL nothing. Now he has 2 Air freshining trees hanging on his mirror and the scents from them just combined with the smell of the blood and its HORRIBLE now.
