If my Camry's OEM glass is 70%(visible light), what happens when I add 50% tint?

I was looking at the Toyota data for the '07 Camry's window glass. It said the visible light penetration rate is 70%.

If I were to add 50% window tint to that, does that equal 35%? (half of the original 70%)

The reason I'm asking is that my state's tint laws only allows 50% tint, but it doesn't say
if that's just for the tint film itself, or the tint film and OEM glass combined.

Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

If the tint shop is openly advertising their tint, and you ask these quesions of them they are likely to give you good answers. Also a call to the state office the oversees this could also answer, but anyway, 50% of 30% is 15% tacked back on to 70% is 85% in theory, right? Be careful trying to drive at night.

i think u are misunderstood, gdanaher.. if the window is OEM 70% VLT(visual light transmission), that means that 70% of the light shines through. if you add 50% VLT to that, in theory that will yield 35%(70/2).

yeah but the camry doesn't come tinted from the factory, so those figures are kind of arbitrary... a 50% tint is barely noticeable... personally i wouldn't get any less than a 30% tint, cause you wanna darken the windows somewhat.... i know i have a 20% tint on my car, and you can still somewhat see through the windows from the outside...
