Hi, can anyone tell me if the center seat in the 2nd row bench seat configuration is removable? I have 2013 8 passenger sienna and was able to remove the center seat to create 2nd row captains's chairs but had the flexibility to snap the center seat back in if I needed to seat 8. I'm wondering if this is also a possibility for the grand highlander

No, it cannot be removed like Honda Odyssey. The second row bench seems to be the default option for the XLE, while the captain seats are the default for the Limited and the Platinum. When you placed the order, you could ask the dealer to swap the option for no charge. The seats are installed at the port, not in the factory.

my dealer only had one for allocation and said they couldn’t swap for the bench seat. i took it because it’s the color i want. it’s not the end of the world for me but i would like to put together a partition between the captains seats and the cargo area as i’m gonna have the third row down 99% of the time.

I haven't seen one with a bench seat yet. How wide is the vehicle at the 2nd row? We've had a Suburban for years (decades at this point) that seats 3 in the 2nd row just fine, but it's probably wider than the Grand Highlander. My wife and I did check out a bench seat in the regular Highlander a few years ago, and there was enough room for our 3 kids (barely) but the center section was as hard as a brick! We would not want to punish anyone like what that would do to one's derriere after even just a short 10 minutes drive! We couldn't understand why Toyota would use such hard foam in a bench seat designed for 3. Perhaps it's the same with the Grand Highlander? Thanks for posting.
