I've got an '07 Camry XLE with the 3.5 in it and I'm losing coolant somewhere. When I bought the car the overflow was empty and I didn't think too much of it at the time. I relied on the dash gauge to tell me that the engine was running within normal parameters (put the pitchforks down please). Fast forward 4 months now, and I just did a flush and fill with new coolant and replaced the thermostat so this is the first I've been able to observe this problem.
Flush and filled, added coolant to the "full" line in on the overflow and drove it for about 1000 miles and everything was great. A few days ago I was in several lines (gas, MickyDees) with the engine idling for about a total of maybe 20 minutes, 50F weather. That's a little more idling than usual but I didn't think anything of it. When I got home I smelled coolant and popped the hood and discovered the overflow tank was empty. Added coolant to it and took the radiator cap off and added another 10 or so ounces to top it off too. Yesterday I popped the hood and the reservoir coolant level is down about 3" from the full line again.
So I bought some UV dye and intend on adding it the radiator this morning to see if I can find this leak, because I don't see any fluid anywhere from above. I still smell it on the right side (front) of the engine. I was watching some Youtubes and one of them (not a Toyota) was saying that the overflow was pressurized? My cap has the hose attached to it and it snaps onto the rim of the overflow container rather than screwing on, so I'm having trouble believing that this particular system is pressurized that way. I'll head to a friend's house who has a lift in his barn and will take a close look at the water pump underbelly later this afternoon but I just want to be clear whether this system is pressurized or not and whether I ought to stop at Napa on the way out there to pick up a new cap.
Thanks in advance if you can offer any help.
