Not sure if this has been posted before, but this is the first time I've seen it. The guys at JL e-mailed it to me. I'll try to get specs and price.

They also told me that their TW5s (thin woofers) will be in full production in January. They will be available in 12” and 13.5” sizes. The 12TW5 is recommended in an air volume of 0.625cu.ft.(net) and the 13TW5 in 0.75cu.ft.(net). They are both going to be a single 4ohm voice coil, rated at 400watts of continuous power handling. They are going to have very similar sound characteristics of the W6v2 woofer and have about the same output as a W3v3 woofer. These should make great truck box speakers. They're only like 3" deep.

you can't go wrong with JL though... I've been a happy customer with JL for many years, took home some nice prizes and trophies with them too! Ahh those were the days...

I'm not too impressed with the speaker they threw in there though, I would have expected a W3 at least.... For the same price though, I would honestly just swap out, do some cutting and throw in an 8W7 in the stock spot (assuming it fits, i'm unsure) :) May need to spend a little more on the amp though :)

I think its a nice unit for someone wanting to keep there plastics intact and dont really care about having alot of bass. Should sound good though!! JL is always on top when it comes to subs in my opinion. But Im still gonna have to put a W6v2 12" in the back of mine. That is the sweetest sounding sub I have ever heard!!!!:loove:

Me too. I was looking for a nice setup. Shipping a box to Hawaii is gonna cost alot which is why I didn't get a box built by Mr. Marv. Local shops can build me a box but I don't wanna leave my truck with them for 2 days or so. At least with this JL box I can just have my local shop order it for me with their order to save on shipping.

I ordered a box from musicmoose, cost $100 to ship, but was still cheaper than having a box built locally that fit, and didnt involve too much cutting. Im happy with the box, but If I had to do it again I would of ordered the box for 3 10's and cut off the drivers side of the box to keep as storage space. Or as a better place to mount my amps.

A 300 watt subwoofer can be just as loud as a 1000 watt subwoofer. It depends how efficient the subwoofer is, and how it's voicecoil and suspension is built. Also how the enclosure is built.

Those subs are rated at 300 watts, but I would have no problem giving them 500 watts. I always overpower my subs. Right now I have about 1k+ watts rms going to a 500 watt RMS subwoofer. I've built dozens of sound systems this way and never had a blown sub due to overpowering. I find that underpowering speakers is more damaging than overpower subwoofers. More wattage equals a stronger magnetic field in the subs voice coil, which mean a more linear movement at high excursions. Low wattage on a big subwoofer increases the chances to loose linearity and let the voicecoil rub against the side of the magnet and destroy itself.

...

you dont want to it to be loud as a 1000 watt rms sub because it would sound horrible...

but more importantly .. i never said i wanted a 300 watt amp to "sound" that loud.. i would want my subs to HIT... as in FEEL like a 500+ watt RMS sub.. and yes it is possible to design a box by taking off the back plate but i've yet to see a company make a box with 5.5" mounting depth.

What do you mean by Hit and Feel? More Xmax? Faster response?

I bet that Stealthbox with two 10s with 300-500 watts powering it has more punch than my 12" sub with 1000+ watts.

Enclosure design goes a long way in how the subs will sound, and I'm sure JL did their homework on the enclosure design.

mmm

a couple of 10w3v3's would sound sick and i jus checked the website and they have 5.93 inch mounting depth

and thanks to this discovery of the hidden tab... i think i know what route im gonna take..

the only id be worried about is air space... i dont know alot about subs but i heard you need ample air space... especially for bigger subs like this?

I put in a box using 3/4 MDF and was able to squeeze in a 12" with a mounting dept of 5.5" and that was mounting the speaker as low as possible, carving out some of the back inside of the box and taking the face of the box out so far that I can't put the plastic seat back cover cause it won't clear the speaker trim.

Maxing out the space behind the seat I was able to get about 1.6 cu ft of air space.
