I know a lot of people have been pleased with the Toyo Open Country A/T or the Bridgestone Dueler Revo tires. Both are more of an all terrain tire and not specifically for off roading, but don't kill your mileage and last longer than a strictly off road tire.

I was using Kelly Safari DTR's when I used to offroad in a Pathfinder more. I thought those were great, were about 130 per tire, had great off road use, weren't too much more noisy than stock, and didn't affect gas mileage. They were Kelly's meatiest tire, but is probably something on the higher end of all terrain.
