Hey everyone,
Just wondering I ordered a K&N filter
Do I have to like oil it or something?
Do I just pop it in right out of the package?
And is it safe to use? I heard some guys engine light came on in a different vehicle but still, are they ok?
Let me know thanks
I just bought it for the sticker =) No, just joking I wanted to try them out
I hear they add hp... haha

They do work, just a filter probably won't add much power. I was going to buy just the drop in filter too, so I could save money as i plan on having the truck for a long long time. I bought this instead! http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326945

Also with the K&N filter, you can use it right out of the box. Once it gets dirty, buy a recharge kit, which is a cleaner, and some fresh oil. It walks you through the process on how to clean it.
You will get some varying opinions on if it will mess anything up or not. I used one on our 08 acura tsx for 2.5 yrs and 50k miles, and no problems. I had one on my 97 firebird in highschool for about 2 yrs and 30k miles, no problems. I have had good luck with them!

i was at auto zone or advanced yesterday and talked to one of the sales people. he said that the K@N filters are a waste b/c the vehicles have a sensor that only lets certain amount of air into the engine. has anyone else heard this?

i would like to get the whole system but dropping $300 on one is out of ? right now. thought about the drop in filter also.

See my post above and the link in it also. Ebay may have some available still too. I really like the intake. It sounds great and it wasn't 300 bones, just 50 shipped! For the price of a K&N drop in I have a complete cold air intake

After installing if the check engine light comes on you have to reset your MAF sensor. To avoid this while installing the filter just pull the EFI fuse for 15 mins.
The MAF will trip the check engine light because it is registering a higher volume of air. Reset the MAF (EFI fuse) and it will be fine.

It has been argued to death on whether a K/N filter improves/does nothing/harms an engine. I am in the boat that it does more harm than good. Yes it increases airflow which will give you a tiny bit more HP but it sucks at filtering out dirt and gunk that your engine will now breath as well.

Good luck..

thanks Zuke. the guy at the auto parts store made it seem like it was a difficult task to reset the EFI or MAF. (he didnt specify what you had to reset)

Wolf i did read that you paid $50 for yours. if i can find one i might get one.

yeah that is correct it was 50 bucks shipped. I found it on Ebay. That is why I got it. I was just going to get the filter, but found this entire kit, for a bout 10 bucks more then just the drop in filter.

I got the cold air intake. Easy to reset, just disconnect batt while you install the kit. I got no check light and runs well. Should! I had rear-end rebuilt, new gas tank, new center bearing, new plugs and wires in the last year. only 187,000 miles! now need to tackle the insane vibration at 65/70 mph. prob tires. good luck with the intake

I have heard that the k&n filters Are alright but work best when it's dirty. The big thing I have heard is that when you recharge the filter, the oil can get on the wire in your maf and make it read weird. However, I have a drop in k&n filter in my truck and have had no problems with it! Hope that helps some.
