My mom is looking at purchasing a 2018 Highlander limited but I noticed the drivers side rear power liftgate support strut looked like it was leaking and the drivers side was noticeably louder compared to the passenger side which didn’t look like it was leaking. Apparently these are expensive to replace and was just wondering if anyone has seen or dealt with anything like that before.

My 2019 seems to squeek a bit when it has sat in 80+ direct sunlight for a couple of hours or when the car is at an incline. Not sure of the exact angle, but more than a slight elevation. Otherwise it operates fine. I was considering using white lithium grease like I do on the door hinges and handles.

When mine started squeaking I used a spray on silicone lubricant that dries immediately, but did not actually spray it because it can be messy. I spray into a small container then apply with a small brush all over the cylinder. Works great for a long time and does not attract dirt.
