Michelin Premiers - Do they have vibration issues?

I just replaced my Michelin Primacy MXV4 17" V rated tires on my 2012 Camry LE with Upgrade Package with a set of Michelin Premier H rated tires. What I have noticed is that the tire is quieter then the Primacy, but I do feel more of the road. On the highways, I can feel the road imperfections more then the older set. Also, I find that there is a bit of a vibration that my old tires didn't have. I took it back to the tire shop and they rebalanced the tires (some of the weights fell off!) but it still does not feel as buttery smooth as the old ones did.

Has anyone else used this tire and can tell me if this is a normal characteristic or if it is defective? I was thinking about getting a road force balance but am not sure if the primacy mxv4 that were on my car were road force balanced from Toyota as I had never balanced the tire in years. Everything always felt buttery smooth.

If a regular balancing can't fix the vibration and since you had no vibration before, your new tires have too much static or dynamic imbalance or have excessive variations in the stiffness of the sidewalls. Neither of these issues should exist on 55+ profile brand name tires.

molson.david,

Thanks for the post. Do you suspect the tires are defective and I should go back to the tire shop to have them check things out? Could it be that the old tires were worn down to 4/32" and that made them smoother?

Thanks,

For some reason, the original balance from the factory is near perfect and hence less vibration. However, subsequent balance after tire replacement, it is not as good hence more vibration. I gotten V-rated instead of H-rated Premiers but I doubt this difference has much impact on the vibration. I would ask for replacement if you are within 30-day free exchange period or try V-rated tires instead.

I have the same issue. Went from mxv4 to premier a year ago. Just could not acheive that perfect balance with premier as with the mxv4. After 4 balances and even another replacement set, still not as smooth as mxv4. I did end up road balancing and had to pay for that myself. I spent 2 months trying to resolve this. It is now acceptable, but not what you would expect.

I also lost an avg of 2mpg. I have the v series.

I have had a lot of issues with new tires not being properly balanced. Seems it is often due to the machines at tire shops not being properly calibrated. If it seems to be speed induced, balancing is likely the problem. If the steering wheel vibrates, it's probably the fronts. If you feel it in the seat, likely the rear tires. You could try swapping front to back and see if it changes, could help troubleshoot if it is unbalanced, or possibly a bad tire.

I had the H's on my 07 with the SE 17's. I never had an issue with balance or vibration except when I first had them installed. Made them rebalance them/do the road force thing which made the vibration go away.
