The light comes on first when the van is pointed uphill. I generally believe I have about 40 miles to go when the light first starts coming on and going off (like going up and down in steeper terrain). When the light comes on and constantly stays on (even on flat ground and headed down hill), then I revise my estimate and think I have about 20 miles of fuel.

These are my observations. I try not to push it too much, and I've only ran out of fuel once in the 12 years I've had my van. Of course that happened when I was trying to get a friend with a dislocated shoulder to a hospital, but it was a long drive.

that sounds about right, although it depends on a lot of variables... just as the fuel consumption does...

 

Yeah that sound pretty accurate. But yeah once the light comes on and stay on for about 5-10 miles...GET GAS ASAP. Trust me.

 

i agree with ghost. once that light kicks gas up asap. Most manufacturers will state that running the tank down will cause fuel pump failure.
