Missing Fuse

I have a 94 Geo Prizm, manual, efi. I just noticed there is no fuse in the Fan/Idle up slot in the main engine panel. It's a 7.5 amp fuse and labeled "multiport fuel injection system/sequential multiport fuel injection system". I've been driving it for 10 years this way. Should I put a fuse in? Could this have been an option not part of my engine?

I don't have that fuse either. It's just an empty slot, but labeled FAN-I/UP on the fuse box cover. My 1997 Wiring Diagram book shows that fuse box and has a diagonal line through that slot indicating it is not used. I suspect that it may have been used on previous models that had a separate idle-up rather than the idle air control valve controlled by the computer like the 6th gen models.

Why do you say it is labeled "multiport fuel injection system/sequential multiport fuel injection system" ? I only see that on a website showing the fuse box, but I'm not sure where they got that description of the fuse. It appears to be incorrect.

It is labeled that in my Chilton Toyota repair manual for a 94 toyota (the manual goes from 88-97). I'll have to look on the actual fuse box lid to see what they call it. I'm just leaving it blank for now. I don't know the history of the engine beyond 10 years ago.

What I know is that it wasn't there from the factory in my 7th gen, but when I swapped the engine for a 4A-GE Blacktop I had to add that fuse + wire, as the Levin Trueno BZ-R had it. The fact that it's pre-wired into the junction box of the 7th gen made it easier for sure. Here's the part where I modded the junction box to add this fuse, you can see the empty spot for that fuse in the wiring diagram as well.

This fuse and the wire attached to it are there to increase the idle speed when the engine fan is on. It might be a feature used on performance models only like the Levin, Sprinter and the FX GT, and they probably disabled it for the economy models (but don't quote me on that).

My 1990 Corolla has the FAN-I/UP fuse, but the repair manual only shows it being used on the 4A-GE engine. I have a 4A-FE. I didn't pull the fuse to see if there are any terminals actually there. The wiring diagram shows it is used with the AC to activate the idle-up valve. On the 7th gen I think this idle-up is all controlled by the IAC valve. The fuse box on the 6th gen is slightly different than the 7th gen, so it's not simply a carryover. Maybe that fuse was used in other markets.

If the circuit is hot, then it's prewired. Based on my experience of working in the assembly line, it is safe to assume that Toyota decided to use the same harness as the 4age but remove the fuses. The connections are modified as well. But, it can be added.

Need to dive into the ECU pins to wire the circuit to the fuse box and from fuse box to the fan.

Hello Gentlemen, I am not a Mechanic, however, for several decades I've been doing minor stuff with the cars. I ever ended up with 6 different OBD Scanners over the years, at least 3 are in their respective Boxes. On my 2002 Toyota Corolla NZE-121FE 1.5 all scanners will power on, however, it never Scan or do anything for me, but it does for other families and friends vehicles which is mind boggling! Yesterday for the very first time, I took out the Glove Box, remove the Fuse Panel Cover hidden above, and saw the OBD Fuse is 7.5 amp, but it's not there. The vehicle is made in Japan, has TV, DVD, MD, etc.
I am wondering if it is possible to add a Fuse, but I figured there's a reason it's not there, and the panel is for other models! Any help, I will be grateful thank you.
I can scan other NZEs!
