I am considering a Nextbase 622GW dashcam but need some advice for mounting and any experience others may have with it before pulling the trigger.

Can an adhesive backed mount be used on the frit or "dot matrix" around the mirror? I am trying to mount the camera it in the most unobtrusive place possible, which means attaching it right on the dots.

If that is not advisable, what is the best place to mount the camera that least obstructs the driver's view?

I am not married to the idea of buying this particular camera, but I do like the standby feature, 4k and night recording. So if anyone has compared these to a different camera they consider better, I would be grateful for the recommendation.

Thanks all.

Yes and no. I mounted a dashcam in a 2009 CRV in 2017; at that time the instructions stated not to mount the camera on the black mat area (there was concern it might fall), so I did not.

Fast forward to December 2024, when we received our new Highlander Hybrid, we requested the Toyota dashcam (an over expensive option that I may regret at this point). And it is mounted (adhered to) the black mat area, with the actual lens of the camera not obstructed by the black mat (see photo below).

So you're probably safe to stick it where you want, as long as the camera lens has a clear field of view, and it doesn't detract/distract from the drivers view. In our case, the camera sits high enough that we don't notice it.
