toku58--much has been posted regarding this. Just a quick reference: I got 21.4 and 20.5 on my last 2 tanks of mixed driving on an 06 DC TRD OR V6 4x2 automatic. My figures pretty well follow what Toyota claims on the window sticker, unlike my Ram which always favored the lowest number. Air conditioning and "topping off" lowered my last tank mpg just a bit.

We took a trip to Napa Valley a couple weeks ago, my 06 access 4x4 V6 Auto got 19.63 mpg with air on, combined freeway and lots of windy county roads. My best so far has been 20.11 mpg and worst was 17.8 mpg. I have 3600 miles on the truck now.

How does topping off lower gas mileage??
Here's a better question:

Who the f@&k cares?

Everyone is going to have different MPG numbers. For the love of all that is holy, drive the truck, change the oil, keep the tires inflated and don't buy crap gas. Stop trying to compare your gas mileage! I assure you that half of what is reported is BS anyway (based on the number of people who can't differentiate the oil drain plug from the transmission drain plug, excuse me if I doubt your calculation skills  ).

I swear to god, it's like asking what size everyone's dick is.

I agree. I don't care about MPG at all. I see I have lost some MPG but I have gained LOTS OF LOOKS from other drivers due to the lift.

BTW: Let's just say that Lex and I are related. :naughty:

apparently a lot of people care...there does seem to be an abundance of posts on it. So anyone want to answer my original question...not because it is going to make me top off but I don't understand the physics behind why that would reduce gas mileage...I find it interesting

Sorry, my response wasn't really directed at you.

Here's what I found:

"Don't top off. The ‘top off’ usually remains in the hose or is lost to evaporation; plus, it's an environmental no-no!"
http://www.royalpurple.com/bobbylikis/bobbylikis1.html

Doesn't say why, just says "don't top off":
http://www.floridadep.org/mainpage/em/energy_tips.htm

"Avoid topping off. When you purchase just a bit of gas at the gas station the pump doesn’t have enough time to really activate, resulting in short bursts of fuel that may short change you from the amount of gas that you are purchasing."
http://www.knightopia.com/journal/archives/000779.html

So to me it doesn't look like a "physics" thing. Just wasteful and pointless. I guess in a roundabout way it would affect your MPG since by topping off it may look like you are using more gas than you really have in there.

Couldn't of said it better myself. Look, If you can afford one of these nice Tacoma's, then you probably shouldn't have to worry about forking out the extra money in gas. Gas prices don't bother me, MPG don't bother me. I am so sick of the big huge debate of what everyones MPG is. There aren't very many ways to increase your fuel economy. And by asking what each and every persons MPG is, is not going to help either. :deadhorse

Talk about beating a dead horse...how about all you who whine about people caring about others MPG. I think it is obvious that a lot of people DO care and thats why they want others to post updates on it. You don't have to make people feel stupid or unwelcome to this forum just because you don't care about the subject. Just let these people be. It's like an A and B conversation, if you are neither of the two and don't want to be...Don't participate and don't criticize.

Im assuming he means that he didnt top off the previous time he got gas. If you fill to different levels every time you get gas and check the mileage your mpg will be skewed. But anyway Im with everyone else there has got to be a million threads on mpg. Oh yeah my dick is 13" long. I swear, no really,Im not kidding its 13".:ugh3:
