I'm trying to convince my friend to get an MK2 MR2.

I have a couple of questions.

Did LSD come w/ the Turbo version?

Is there anything you guys can think of which could further convince my friend and I think I'm going to tell him to get the turbo version.

The other car he's lookin at is a Porsche 944.

91s are the most common followed by 93s.
The 92s are fairly rare. The 94s are very rare.
Good luck ever finding a 95 and trying to afford it if you do :)

If your friend is serious about autocrossing, I would nto suggest t he turbo model.
The non-turbos do much better in their class.

How are the ease of parts? (More-so performance) And what is the car's potential?

My friend is more interested in Auto-cross and the stuff that test the cars potential. So when I learned that the car is practically 50-50 front to rear balance, that was a plus.
Thats not a very good arguement because the 944 has a good 50-50 weight distribution as well.

Tell him the 944 is an interference engine and he's going to have to spend a TON to maintain it. Trust me I know, my dad had one and had to do the timing belt, water pump etc. a couple of times.

Parts and labor are going to be alot less for the 2 than the Porsche.

A turboed MR2 also has more horsepower than a 944 Turbo, and an N/A MR2 has more than an N/A 944.

I really like the 944, its a sexy car, but an MR2 should definately be more trouble free and just as much fun to drive.

Well, the main reason he wants a 944 because it's light as hell. His friend said the turbo version, 200 hp could beat out his 300 hp infiniti.

I also looked into buying a 944 turbo. Good luck finding one in great condition for under $10k. Most have over 100k miles and the timing belt/60k mile maintance is like $2k alone. That is suposed to be done every 60k miles, and the 30k mile maintance is almost $1k. Thats general maintance. Wait untill the suspension starts to go, or if he wants to get aftermarket parts. There are not many aftermarket parts. The upgrade kit which includes injectors, computer chip, and something else for the 944 turbo is like $1200. Go mr2 turbo. Much cheaper, reliable, just as quick if not quicker, and will handle just as good when the suspenion is upgraded and will be ALOT cheaper to upgrade.

Light as hell? lol ... where is that coming from? the 944 is a pig for weight.

http://vista.pca.org/stl/944turbo.htm
Curb weight: 3115 lbs
The turbo MR2 is 2850-2950 depending on options.

The 944 is going to be massivley expensive to repair compared to the MR2.

Hm.......

Then why does my friend say it can beat out his friend's 300 HP infiniti? (I think it's an SUV but even with the extra 1000 pounds wouldn't the infiniti still win?)

Edit: It's a Q45. Rated at 340 Hp and 333 tourque, Vs the Porsche 944 Turbo which is 208HP//207 tourque. The regular model has something like 150 hp.

MKII's have power sterring as an option as well.
Most of them have power steering.
I chose to get rid of mine.

"Between the wheel and the seat" = driver

Any car can beat any car if one of hte drivers is diving terrible.
Also, and this may come as a big shock, people very frequently lie about who and what they beat in order to seem cool. I know. That is shocking, but it happens.

So, either your friend is full of baloney or the other guy can't drive worth a darn.
... or a whole host of other reasons.

Comparing car X to car Y in straigh line performance is almost always worhtless unless they are both stock and were driven by the same driver on an actual drag strip.

944 are heavy, and mr2s are known to spin out to drifters, i spin out trying to grip the turns, i probably need a better line, or tires, probably both, but the driver matters alot, in the end, the car can be modified to whatever he wants, hell, he can get a mk1 to have a light car to start off with and do a swap for power, he's probably got a budget and doesn't want to work on it, but whatever car, its probably going to be modified i would stick with a mr2, i drove my friends turbo 944 (the crappy one, i think theres a faster turbo for that year) and it was pretty quick, but it didn't feel light at all. he should drive the cars too before he decides.

 Alright. I wasn't exactly sure how it was possible, but my friend sounded like he knew what he was talking about so I believed him.

Btw, Jekyll, He was asking me the cars "potential" and I gave him your car's numbers. Needless to say he was impressed.

No feel for the road?

I know I don't have to worry about that :D

So why don't you want him to have a 944? Just because it's not a Toyota? Becuase my friend Micah has a 944 S2 and it is wicked on a road course. Plus no lag with a 3.0L I-4 :)

No. I'm not a toyota diehard. I don't really have any beef w/ any other car companies.

Just tryin to give my buddy some other options, because for all those reasons stated above, a 944 may not be the best choice.

My grandpa has a Q45. I wouldnt be suprised if it could beat a stock 944, then again the Q is pretty heavy, not sure of the weight exactly though. BTW the Q45 is a Sedan. The FX series are the SUV, and damn sexy for an SUV as well.
