my 5sfe wont start

hi everyone, am new to forum and hoping get some help from yall experts.

i have a 94 camry 5sfe which it crank but doesnt start. as i was takin my brothers to the dentist then stop by mcdonald and came out no start. i feel no combustion when i crank it.
this is what i have narrowed down to and dont know what else to check for:
fuel: pump works, injector cleaned, new filter.
EFI: i manually check the relays, the main EFI(spst type) and the open circuit relay (green relay behind the glove box), and it seems to work according to my haynes manual.
ignitions:get all sparks from all 4 wires. new sparkie.

tomorrow imma see if i can grab a code off the ECM.

thanks in advance........am feeling very stranded and missed couple of classes already.

after long day lookin around at nothing.... i found out that the ignition timing was jumpin around at idle.

what i did was link these 2 port together at teh diagnostic box and look at 10degrees BTDC and i set the distributor to 10 degrees BTDC. i had someone look at the timing while i adjusted and tighten the distri bolts down. then later in about couple min it jumped pretty eratic at a difference of 3-5 degrees.

why do i have to link the two thingy together for? and i notice the check light is on.....whats goin on?

noticin that instead of startin up and rest (warm engine) at 1100rpm then slowly down to 800, it start up and the rpm quickly jump down to about 800 or under and wanting to stall out.

could it be the vacuums......i dont know much about the vacuums stuff, someone explain why its important.

You don't know what shorting out the 2 pins on the diagnostic connector does, but you did it anyways? :slap:

Are you sure you shorted out the right pins?

Anyways shorting out the 2 pins puts the ecu into diagnostic mode.

and i notice the check light is on.....whats goin on?
Its suppose to blink when you have the 2 pins on the diagnostic connector shorted.

If its on when you remove the jumper then you got a problem.

theres a sticker under the hood sayin timing and link two port together and the check light blink while "shorting out" and it doesnt stay on. i dont know if theres a sticker on ur 88camry le of yours though, but there is one on mine.
-whats "shorting out" the two port doin anyways?

i also notice the car wanting to stall out during the warm engine while driving. whats goin on?

EGR valve maybe the cause of stalling out

94 5sfe 180kmiles
if the EGR valve may be faulty and stuck open would it cause the car to stall on idle or low speed?

how long does this valve last anyways?

The egr valve can start leaking anytime, there's no typical lifetime. It can give you a bad idle indeed but many other things can possibly give you a bad idle.
Here is a way to check your egr :
You need to have a vacuum pump which you shall connect to the egr vacuum port. Vacuum should remain steady and engine should run poorly.
If your EGR valve is faulty it can be two possible problems : either it is clogged or it is just leaking.
BTW if you are interested I still have a spare one (used) (just in case).
What you can do as well as you're on it is change vacuum hoses, it's not an expensive thing and you'll be at least sure these ones are not leaking.
