I need a bolt size for a 5 speed transmission on a 92 paseo(5EFE to the manual transmission) finishing up an engine swap and am short bolts. it's the upper two bolts that seem to be a bit longer then the other ones. I didn't keep the originals thinking the engine would come with some(considering it came with the rest of the car). However the parts car was an automatic and the bolts aren't the same.(17mm head)
Just a point in the right direction would be good thanks.

They have the same head size but are not the same length. Wondered if anyone knew the length.
My '97 happens to be dissassembled in the garage, so I took a look. I have three M12x1.25x60 bolts that thread into the block (the top two and the forwardmost ear) and one M10x1.25x60 bolt that goes in the other direction through the rear block ear and threads into the transmission below the starter. This is a gen 2 engine; your Gen 1 may be different.

purdy fair mechanic, PaseoSub. i always have stuff left over.

are the ears or flange on the bel housing thicker on the top two bolts? measure that and add it to your existing bolts.

use a drill bit to determine your depth.

grade eight w/6 or more threads burried to torque should be fine.

i sometimes use an appropriate nut for the minimun amount of threads needed to ensure no stripping or stretching of threads. but i would exceed that mesurment due to cast iron app.
