There's not much of aftermarket support for the non turbo model with its 5SFE engine.
A cold air intake will improve throttle response , but will only give you 1 or 2 HP.
If you can find a header and a freer flowing exhaust, like a magnaflow, along with the CAI, you might get as much as 7-15HP.
Suspensions mods will keep you grounded better for driving the twistys.
Real HP is not cheap. The 5sfe engine is a good, dependable engine, but built more for economy than performance.

Mr2

Hey new to this group also. I recently purchased a 2000 spyder with a few mods done to it.

- short shifter
- lowered front one and half inch and an inch in the back.
- and a nice sounding exhaust ( not sure how good the performance is right now)

I'm going to be working on some mods over the next few weeks and looking forward to getting to know people and get their opinions and getting some new mods

An intake will help with a quicker throttle response and a more throatier sound, but will only add a couple of horses. The stock exhaust manifold on the Spyder is darn near header like. If you are going to modify the exhaust, I would only change the muffler to a twin exit MagnaFlow.
The lightened parts I mentioned will reduce the rotational mass that the engine has to turn before the energy even reaches the wheels. It doesn't add HP per say, but will let approximately 2.5 more hp to the ground for every pound you reduce. Plus the engine will rev up much quicker and give you awesome response.

That's interesting! I will look into that. Looking to get her healthy and have some fun on the track.

Here are some new discoveries i made on the car. It already has a

- DOHC ZZW30 Race Manifold header
- Dual path 3'' Tip CATBACK Muffler system
- He took out the Catalytic converter, check engine light is now on- any idea why he would do this? Can I leave it as is or are there risk i can harm the engine??

Would you recommend a short RAM intake or a long RAM? I feel throttle response could be better.

Here is a pic.

Always a good idea to make sure she's healthy before doing any modding so it can handle the additional stress'.

He probably did it for better exhaust flow. Is it turbocharged or supercharged? A lot of guys using forced induction remove or gut the cat.
And given that you don't have a cat, you may not be able to pass inspection if you have that in your state.

If it's still using an o2 sensor downstream of where the cat was, it will throw off your fuel trim. As far as harming the engine, I'm not sure.
And once again, with out it, you may not be able to pass inspection if you have that in your state.

I made my own piping and used a K & N cone filter. I guess you could call it a short ram. It worked very well. I've seen the long ones. They are very long and are routed almost to the inside of the rear bumper. Uhg. I thing thats just silly.
