Hi all! I know extended warranty questions come up a lot here so I just wanted to give back to the Highlander community and provide a quick recap for everyone who is thinking about purchasing Platinum Toyota Extended Warranty. I’ve reached out to 3 different people regarding non-hybrid Toyota Extended Platinum warranty pricing:

1. Ian (Germain Toyota/ formerly Wolverine Toyota)
irosentreter@germain.com
2. Jennifer (Germain Lexus of Ann Arbor/ formerly from Wolverine Toyota)
jennifertaylor@germain.com
3. Jerry Johnson (Midwestsuperstore)
jerryj@midwestsuperstore.com
Cell: 620-664-8844

Here are the results:
1. Ian never replied. Not sure what his current prices are.

2. Jennifer replied after about 3 days but prices are significantly higher compared to 2022 pricing (see screenshots). Not sure if Jennifer quoted higher pricing just to me but $400 increase is insane. Your pricing might vary from mine but that’s the quote Jennifer gave me.

3. Jerry replied within hours and his current (2023) pricing is in line with 2022 pricing from Ian/Jennifer shared in various groups earlier. I’ve ended up purchasing 10 yr/ 125k Toyota Platinum extended warranty (non-hybrid) from Jerry this morning for $1,795. I realize that I still have 2 more years to purchase extended warranty but with inflationary pressures I did not want to risk with potential price increases in the future. Jerry was very responsive and was extremely easy to deal with.

P.S. I did ask Jerry what he charges for 10 yr/125k warranty for HYBRID and he said it was $2,070

Even with this information, don't plan on your dealer budging from their price. Several years ago I offered a dealer $1000 for a Platinum 5/60k warranty on a Tacoma 4WD. Based on that new info above, I was offering double what they could potentially sell it for, so they should have still made a nice profit. Back then it was about the same story, maybe even less expensive for them. They wouldn't take the money, and I didn't get any extended warranty at all.

The worst thing that happened to us as consumers was for Toyota Financial Services to remove the MSRP pricing from their Web site back then. That's what drove the warranty prices through the roof, not the cost of the electronics on the car like the dealers always say. I'm sure there's some element of truth about the car having more expensive parts that may be more likely to fail, but most of the cost to us is profit for the dealer.

Completely depends on your dealer, in late December 2018, buying our 2019 Avalon Limited, the Finance office at Wilde Toyota in Greenfield WI, agreed to match Jennifer's price, which was about 1/2 of what they initially said theirs would cost. As normal, they went into their now "don't you want to protect your investment with the 100K, 10 Yr Platinum warranty," and I said I sure do, but not at your price. I'll buy it from you if you match Wolverine Toyota's price, which I handed to him on an e-mail from Jennifer. About 10 minutes later, the Finance guy came back and said OK, we have a deal.

Good morning all.
If anyone is thinking about a Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty, I would strongly and highly recommend the following two people:

1- JJ, the finance man in South Lake Tahoe - Bagan Toyota

Or the aforementioned

2- Jerry Johnson

I called throughout Georgia and then various locations throughout the US when I first bought my 2019 HiHy.
I bought the 10 year - 125,000 mile from JJ for two reasons
His dealership is local to our vacation home and he price matched Jerry Johnson. So I got the best price and supported my local dealership.

These two gentlemen ALWAYS responded to any question I had, and were AT LEAST a thousand dollars less than anyone else around the US.

If you call them, tell them Martin from Atlanta sent you.
And I agreed to recommend them, but not mention final price.

Sincerely,
M

I believe the issue is that there are Toyota dealers who are (or at least were) paid members of this site, who felt it was unfair to put prices out in the open on this site. I often think that's why so many posters confuse pricing threads with the infamous OTD pricing which isn't comparable at any level, unless you literally live in the exact same neighborhood as the poster. Taxes and registration costs vary incredibly in this nation so the only legitimate comparable pricing info is percentage or dollars off (or maybe over) MSRP window stickers.

I believe I paid $775 for 8 Year 75k Extended warranty. ( I purchased from one of the above about a year ago.)We only put about 10k a year on Vehicle. I had a Ford fusion the engine went out due to Water pump being run by timing chain and leaking into engine. At 66k miles and 6.5 years old. Had fords all my life, That's when I decided to look into Toyota.

I believe the 10 Year, 125k warranty was offered at $1275 around a year ago. from same person. Michigan Dealer.

I figured If The vehicle Got to 8 years without any major issues. That was goo enough for me. dealer, at purchase wanted $3000 for 125K 10 year warranty. This was on 2021 XLE V6.

Hi! I'm researching platinum warranties for a used 2020 xle. I see the recommendation to use JJ to purchase a warranty. This is probably a stupid question, but are you able to purchase a warranty from someone out of state? I'm in Texas and was quoted a price for a platinum warranty that's 5 years/60k miles. I feel like it may be a little higher than what I thought it should be. I guess I'm just trying to find out if you can shop around with other Toyota dealerships for the warranty.

Toyota extended warranties (Vehicle Service Agreements) on USED cars must be purchased with the car.

The above discussion is about NEW cars. For a new car, you can buy the VSA from any dealer as long as the car is still within the 3/36 Basic Warranty period.

Good morning, all.

To answer the question from a recent azb5:

Yes you can purchase a Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty (aka VSA) from any Toyota dealership in any state. Your local dealership CAN match but usually won’t because….Most of their customers never bother to shop.

To clarify the same person’s discussion:

The toyota extended warranty is ONLY available, if your car is still under its original factory warranty.
Ie - anytime during the first 3 years AND 36,000 miles you can purchase the platinum extended warranty. Up to and including 2 years 11 months and 35,999 miles. You do NOT have to purchase it upon buying your car.

I purchased my warranty just prior to my car’s original warranty expiration. I expect I won’t need it, but 125,000 miles of peace of mind is a good thing.

Hope this helped.

We purchased the Platinum Warranty Plan 10/125 when we purchased our 2024 Camry Hybrid last year in October. I just took the car in the other day for its first 5k service. No oil change of course. But I changed the oil myself already at 2k and I'm going to change it once again this weekend (5k). So I made the appointment last week for 8am (Monday). I arrived 15 minutes early and they said it would take an hour & half. Fast forward 2 1/2 hours and I get a text saying the maintenance work was done and it would take another 10 minutes for the paperwork. Fast forward another 50 minutes and the paperwork is done. 3+ hours later I'm heading home. I looked at the paperwork and everything looks to be in order. No issues and all the boxes checked off. How long does it take for the first 5k check up and paperwork? I'm sure the mechanic was doing his job correctly. We bought the extended warranty plan as we figure this will be our last vehicle. We'll be retiring in 1 year & 1 1/2 year. I've been changing the oil in all of our vehicles since I can remember. I bought the extended warranty so I wouldn't have to worry about changing the oil or any other issues with the Hybrid. Plus with all the new computer technology involved I dint want to deal with. I think we paid just over $2000 for it. Maybe it was too much? I will be taking the vehicle in for each and every one of its maintenance check. I just hope I dont have to wait longer and longer at each check. One other note, we are planning to move to Korea for 2 years for the first 2 years of our retirement. Then move back to our house in SoCal. But I am planning to fly back every quarter for supply's and to visit family & friends. And to take the car in for its maintenance checks. The hybrid will have a battery tender to keep the car charged while were gone for 2 years. Our sons will be looking after it also.

Has anyone purchased a Toyota VSA recently? I am looking to purchase a VSA on my 2021 Platinum. I have been trying to make contact with Jerry Johnston at Midwest Superstore for a couple weeks now in an attempt to get pricing. I cannot get a return call or email.
Anyone have any leads as to whom I might contact for a reasonably fair price for a VSA?

was browsing around this site since I am new and glad I stumbled on this subject, we bought our new 2024 Highlander hybrid limited a week ago and I opted out of buy the VSA plan. I asked the finance person if I could purchase it later and he said no I had to purchase it right then and there because once I drove off the lot it was a used car. Keep in mind I already did my homework before coming in with no intention of getting the warranty from them unless it was a sweet deal. I knew you can still purchase the VSA plan at a later time long as It was under certain miles. I ended up getting a platinum ext warranty up to 125k through my wife’s credit union which we were pre approved before going there which is maybe why the finance guy told me that I could not buy it later for way less than what he wanted to charge me. Moral of this story and I am sure everyone else on here can agree do your research first thankful for forums like this to help other out. I understand a dealer is trying to make money, but way too much. Was able to get a warranty at cost

I purchased my Toyota Platinum VSA Through Oroville Toyota. Ask for Richard. He was able to meet Jerry and Troy's prices. I think he said they all offer $200 over cost. But while some dealers can't sell nationwide (to me in CA) I went with Richard. Before I knew about troy and Jerry He gave me competitive numbers and was super straight up from the get go, which I really appreciated. I'm not trying to sell anyone on him over the other guys, but my experience and price was great.

Unfortunately, Jerry from Midwest Toyota informed me (Nov. 2024) that Toyota prohibits him from selling VSAs to those with California addresses. I purchased a Platinum VSA plan (10 yrs/125K) online from Spencer Ubbink (Oroville Toyota). He is a fantastic option for Californians to get a good price for these plans. Cellphone number (530)730-6434. Email: spencer@ orovilleautocenter.com
I posted this information here and on Reddit to save other CA residents time and $.

I don't think they are being deceptive, just one-sided. They are only looking at it from their side. Thus, they have no policy against a ca resident getting a toyota product from a toyota dealer anywhere. Now, If ca has a problem with you doing that that's on them/you. As for ca being singled out, ca singles themselves out by the actions they take.

Disagree. When I spoke with Toyota Financial (TF) they did not come out and state California has this consumer protection policy. They merely insist that I am able to buy a VSA from any state.

I had called them and inquired if I was able to buy a VSA from any state prior to getting an out of state quote and was assured that I could buy a policy from any state. After contacting and wanting to buy this out of state VSA, I was informed by the salesman that he was unable to sell a VSA in California. I recalled TF and relayed what the salesman had advised me. They again insisted I could buy a VSA out of state. I then researched the subject, and only then found the information on this platform. Why they are not transparent about this situation is beyond me.
