Problem removing cabin air filter cover and hood.

I'm trying to replace both my cabin and engine air filter on a 2017 camry le 4 cylinder and I am prevented in these two simple tasks.

First I followed all the directions in the manual and removed the outer cover for the cabin air filter. The second cover with the two tabs you're supposed to pinch in does nothing. When I pinch in the tabs the tabs themselves move but otherwise it is rock solid stuck in there with zero give as if it is superglued into the compartment. I tug and tug, not that there is any easy way to get a good grip and there is no movement. I looked up tutorials and forum posts and it seems nobody else in the history of the world has had this issue so there is no guidance on what to do.

My second problem is with the hood. The hood release latch in the car does pop it partially open but the problem is the secondary safety catch. I look underneath and the metal tab they say you are supposed to lift up just make the catch shift slightly without disengaging. When looking for tutorials on this almost all of them seem to center on the main release failing and assume the second catch release will release just fine with the lift. What should I do for this one? Thanks.

I have found the cabin air cover can be troublesome but I found that pushing the tabs towards the middle, curve your finger so that the nail engages the tab end and use your finger as a lever to push it out. Do both sides equally and it will pop right off.
The hood latch is flimsy and will flex when trying to open from the edge. Reach further under to about the halfway point of the release and push up then pull open the hood. If the latch is bent, bend it back.

Yeah its annoying especially the cover behind the cover. You gotta find a way to tug it out.. I ended up snapping tab left secure tab but its still connected just flimsy now that definitely helps a lot in getting the piece out.. I found it difficult to find a replacement of this part so try to take it easy

In cold weather I have no problem releasing this cover however, in the summertime it was stuck on like super glue
just take a pair of needle nose, pliers, and pull on the inside plastic tab and it will pop right off

2017: Same 2 problems here! Hood latch too flexible… once open I have to regularly bend it back to workable shape. Inspect how it moves and you’ll see the point of resistance, and where to bend it so it doesn’t rub/catch. Cabin filter cover- tried screwdriver, no success. Going to try needle nose pliers. Unbelievably immovable by hand.

I gotta think that lubricating the lever pivot, as well as moving the lever arm/pad both vertically and horizontally to the left (as it moves in an arc) will make things easier. The needed throw is also on the long side.
I can't imagine mine getting bent in normal use, unless maybe needs lubrication(?).
Definitely not the easiest or most ergonomic latch I've used, but when my finger force follows the arc it does always work.

I seem to recall flicking just the right-side clip on the filter cover to the left always allowing me to tug it out from just the right end.
