Sooooo, if some remember I posted a picture of another highlander a few months ago doing this. Now, mine is doing it on the same light. I removed the leds I had in the blinker to verify it wasn’t the cause. Anyone deal with this issue yet at the dealer? Seems it maybe an issue with our highlanders that shows itself after so long.

Mine wasn’t doing it because after I saw that one I looked at mine. And before anyone says it’s the European light it’s not. They have their rear fog in the bumper.

This stinks. Frustrating.

I think this maybe the issue as I had that hail damage fixed not too long ago. I bet you they didn’t hook the light back right. I’ll have to check tomorrow after work when I got some light again. Hopefully it hasn’t damaged anything. This post on fb brought it to light! Will report then.

The brake and tail lights do use the same LED modules and plugs, but one plug harness is longer than the other. Check for any wire stretching because the shorter harness shouldn’t be able to easily reach the further module. This is by design to prevent this problem.

Guess it doesn’t prevent it. Lol. They should of used a different connector like most cars do. Oh well.

if you take it to the dealership, put the incandescent turn signals back in as they love to blame something else

if the connectors were swapped, then your driver side running lights would be on with the right brake light

but the brake light is actually a replaceable LED bulb from Toyota

That was it. Moved the connectors around and now it matches the driver side. The actual side lights up now with the parking lights and the brake only with brake. Lol.
