Rearview Mirror (GNTX 453) DIY

I've managed to install a GNTX 453 Mirror. What do you guys think? (I still gotta paint the wires black or electrical tape the bottom plug of the wires on the mirror so its less noticeable).

EDIT: Installed my mirror using the OEM factory plug instead of the cigarette lighter fuse. I've also hid all the wires as if it came OEM.

EDIT 2: Every harness on your GNTX 453 mirror might be different than mine that's why I didn't include color codes on my mirror. Most of the time though it's pretty obvious since you should have 3 wires. Most likely one of them will be black which is obviously ground. The rest of the two if you follow my instruction you can use those 2 wires for 12V only in ignition mode (only if you want to but i suggest this). If you don't want this then try either of the wires on the constant 12V or 12V ignition if you don't know where the colors go. It's not going to hurt your mirror its just going to make it more obvious where each wire goes. I hope this helps let me know if you still need help.

EDIT 3: THE GNTX 453 MIRROR ONLY REQUIRES 3 WIRES!!!!! HERE IS AN IMAGE OF WHAT EACH PIN DOES SO THAT WHETHER YOUR HARNESS HAS DIFFERENT COLORS OR NOT IT SHOULDN'T MATTER IF YOU FOLLOW THIS NEW PICTURE I UPLOADED!

EDIT 4: It turns out that some of these mirrors will come with a FOURTH wire. The fourth wire is PIN 9 on the mirror. Here is an image of what the fourth wire does if you manage to get a harness with four wires or you're just interested. https://i.gyazo.com/31c3712c3739890dee9dee27a5283430.png I personally don't see the fourth wire being that useful but if you want to install it then you do you!

Got any questions? Feel free to ask!

I was going to bring down the headliner to check if there were any cables but I didn't want to go through all that so I just instead hid all the wires into the headliner and pillars. I worked myself down to the fuses and tapped into my cigarette lighter fuse. If you feel comfortable taking down the headliner then I would suggest it because someone on this forums did take it down and use the wires on there. It's up to you though. Also if you use the way to the cigarette lighter then make sure you hide the wires away from the airbag in the pillar. You should see wires going down the side of the pillar so you know where it's safe to hide the wires.

I did find the harness on ebay gntx 453 https://m.ebay.com/itm/2012-2014-5-...s-Mirror-Wiring-Harness-Kit/302659214770?hash=item4677e51db2:g:HBUAAOxy~iJQ-HHx I will visit junkyard and look for them since 2010 nissan altima uses the same 453 rear view mirror I am positive I can get more cheaper locally. And use saved money from buying online for the harness. Not comfortable running wire next to pillar airbag knowing my luck I might end up blowing them up lol

Picture showing the overhead console connect harness as well

That's great! Very cheap but it sucks you didn't manage to get the harness. I would suggest getting that harness you linked me to and see if you can convince him to go a little cheaper. Also get the wire cover too so that the wire doesn't stick out. I'll put out the video later tonight.

Hmm this is interesting. Try this again BUT this time make sure about 1 inch of insulation is remove. Wrap them both together very good! and then connect them to the only 12V ignition. I did this my first time and everything powered on like it was supposed to. I'm not sure why yours didn't power on. I've been using it since I uploaded the DIY video and its been working just fine. I think thought it had to of been not a good connection because sometimes that just happens. I hope you can give this a try again and see if it works. Also if you have discord we can talk on there if you want I can try to help you.

Thanks and yes thats the Azera 2007 mirror. Plus I don't need the temperature since I already have it on my dash, I don't think it will make a difference of not having temp reading?

I have a 2007 Altima mirror, it looks the same but has the compass only and in orange, which matches half of the factory dash white / amber back lighting on the 10.5 gen Corolla S.

The one I saw ('10 Prius?) had the Compass and temp separate (one above the other) in the same window.

.......Got any questions? Feel free to ask!.........
Just a couple of questions if you don't mind. On your LE was all the power you needed in a plug already in the headliner, or did you have to run wires up from another source?

I just bought a 2017 LE and would love to have an auto dimming mirror, but only if I don't have to route power from another location.

Thanks!

Thanks Mo'Toyota! Now I just need to verify if the following is still true on the 2017's (from the other mirror thread):

I was told by a Toyota mechanic that the Camry no longer includes the harness for the Homelink mirror in the roof. It was discontinued midway in the 2015 model run. Also checked with the E-Bay vendor about their mirrors and they confirm the mirrors will not work on current models without extensive wiring... Sucks...
If anyone has info on this please chime in. I'm not interested in the Homelink gizmos, just power for an auto-dimming mirror.

I have no clue unfortunately but it never hurts to bring down your headliner and check for yourself. You won't break anything and it's simple.
