I just bought a 2016 Camry XSE and I am looking to replace the head unit with something that will give me some more functionality. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a good aftermarket head unit that will give me all the functionality I want. I was wondering if I could get some recommendations from people here who have replaced their head units with good results. I'm looking for something that will do the following:

1) I want to be able to link my phone to the head unit such that it can display navigation from my phone on the head unit screen. I also want it to be able to display/read messages other than SMS, primarily Facebook messenger. I think I need Android Auto for this but I'm not sure. I have seen some head units with a feature called Mirror Link that I think would provide this functionality but I'm not sure.

2) I want to keep the ability to have my backup camera automatically turn on when I put the car in reverse.

3) I would like to keep the connection to the steering wheel buttons.

4) I would like at least a 7" screen, 10.1" screen preferred.

5) It has to have radio functionality, but I don't care too much about the sound output. I don't listen to music much in the car, mostly just talk radio, so it doesn't have to have the best, fanciest, sound output.

I found this unit on Seicane in another thread from this forum and it checks off a lot of my boxes but it doesn't appear to have Android Auto so it won't hit the first thing on my list. If someone who has this unit installed in their Camry could let me know how it works for them I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much everyone, I appreciate the help!

I'm not opposed to spending a little more. I looked on Crutchfield and found this Sony receiver that looks like it might fit the bill. Reviews are mixed on the features but with the $100 install kit it looks like I can keep my backup camera and steering wheel button functionality. What do you think?

If you're not using the iMaestro install kit, you'll lose a lot of your OEM features currently accessible through your factory head unit. The iMaestro kit (module, harness, misc wires) runs about $200. I recently installed a basic Pioneer head unit because the factory unit's layout and sound quality are so awful. Laid out $300 for the head unit plus $200 for the iMaestro kit. As far as head units being able to do what you're looking for, I'm no expert. But I have to say, you'll regret it if you don't get the iMaestro install kit. Additionally, the head unit must be compatible with iMaestro. I imagine a lot of the 'generic' Android head units are not. If you have questions about the install, let me know!

You will absolutely need a Maestro RR kit and T02 harness. Otherwise say goodbye to to all the information you can see on the screen between your gauges. And say goodbye to adjusting factory settings like Headlight & domelight off timers etc..
The Maestro kit & T02 Harness makes an easy plug and play to retain these factory features, steering wheel controls, and factory back up camera operation.
However you will need to get an aftermarket headunit that is Maestro RR compatible.

Go here: http://maestro.idatalink.com/product/product/product_id/102

Most the major aftermarket headunit brands offer Andriod Auto and CarPlay.

YES! As long as the headunit is supported by Idatalink Maestro RR which your Seicane i am not sure if it supports it or not.

You will need an Idatalink Maestro RR and a TO2 harness.

You will also need the dash kit:

and if you want to use your factory antennae

And I would highly recommend this so you can use all your stereo features whether you're in park or not (some units block certain functions, such as DVD playback)

This post has been dead for a while, but wondering if anyone here, when they changed all of this out, also changed out the speakers, or added an amplifier? Had a friend who bought a different interface module for his system (it was a PAC) and the trouble he ran into is that he had to run the speaker wires through it, and the amp he had would not work through it. Did not know if anyone had that issue as well or had a workaround.

I replaced my headunit and did so with the full iMaestro kit as explained in detail above. I also replaced both my door and rear deck speakers with Pioneer 6x9's. Let's just say it went from mundane to wow with that change. Absolutely blows away the factory speakers. You get just enough power out of the headunit to get some good bass. The Pioneers I got were $35/pair and came with install brackets for the front doors. I had to get aftermarket brackets for the rear deck. Install was super easy. But seriously, you're going to get some good, loud bass. Just this side of amps and subs!

Do you have JBL system that you bypassed or just regular stock system? with the imaestro kit , did you retain full steering wheel and backup camera functions? I have the XSE and was wondering if i change my head unit , will i be able to keep the stock JBL ?

I do not/did not have JBL. Yes, the iMaestro/iDatalink kit retains all functions including steering, as long as those functions are also available on the new head unit. I bought a head unit with a backup camera input, but if your new head doesn't have a rear camera in, that won't work. I am not sure what you mean by 'keep JBL' since the idea is that you're replacing your JBL head unit? You're literally replacing the JBL head unit. It's like saying "how do I get Goodyear tires and keep my Bridgestone tires?"

No wonder why we need self driving cars

My stereo plays music. The only thing I require is "multiple sources", whether I want to use USB, MP3 player, CD, satellite, or blueteeth. I have a phone mount so GPS is via phone. Rear camera is fancy but I am just fine with turning my head and using my 3 mirrors while also practice smart parking.

I don't make phone calls while driving, I don't use text messaging when driving, I don't use fakebook while driving..... I just CONCENTRATE ON DRIVING.
