When I took the CV axle out of the transmission, this spring was inside behind the seal. I took it out and then took the seal out. The spring was just loose there inside the transmission so I don't know where to put it back in. The new seal from the dealer doesn't have the spring included in it so I don't think its part of the seal. Can anyone help out? I have a car disassembled in my driveway and not sure what to do. Thanks!

You may need to remove the axle and seal (I know that's a PITA) and inspect the axle sealing surface and see how the new seal (you'll need a new one) fits over that surface. It's possible that the axle surface diameter is out of spec (if it's remanufactured) or that the seal's diameter is incorrect. Just for an example, I was rebuilding my Honda's 5-speed and I needed an input shaft seal. Every single parts supplier (AutoZone, O'Reilleys, NAPA, RockAuto, etc) had seals with a 27mm diameter opening in their databases. When I got it, I knew it wasn't going to seal on the shaft as it was just too big. I checked the factory seal's specs and it was 26mm! I ended up ordering one from Honda and problem solved. Cheers!
