Hello group, I am trying to wire in a reverse camera. I have looked on-line but found no info on where the Reverse Gear Signal wire is.

This is labeled as (+) on the wire going to the display, and I am thinking this should be the wire coming from the shifter that sends power to the back up lights, but it may not be, and I can't find that wire either.

In the trunk, it is there, to hook up the camera, to give it power, but I don't want to run a wire all the way through the car if I don't have to.

Thanks

Bill

On the back of the instrument cluster, there's 3 plugs, the largest(16 pin plug) has the wire for reverse. It should be position 13, and red with a black stripe. This is a positive trigger. FYI, my info is based on a '95 wiring diagram, so your wire color or pin position may vary on a '99, but it's probably the same.

Be careful with splicing there, there isn't much wire to work with. You could also just cram a stripped wire in when you put the light bulb into the cluster assembly, but that's not really the right way to do it.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the ALLDATA for my vehicle, trying to find this wire. It shows as Red with a black stripe, but did not show were it was.

There is a Backup Light Relay, somewhere behind the glove box, and it says pin 5 of that relay is where I should hook onto.

That is the same wire that runs all the way through the car to the lamps in the trunk.

I will try to find this tomorrow, if it stops raining.

Thanks again

Forget it, I just went out and got the pictures. This is the wire that leads to the reverse lights. It's red/black with two silver dots marking it. I circled the location of the plug int he footwell and the arrow points to the exact wire.

Mine is a '98 so should be the same as your '99. Chunkywolf's suggestion behind the instrument cluster probably also works. This one was easier for me to work with.

Thanks, I will take a look at my car and see if it is the same. Do you know if this is the wire that goes to that relay I was talking about, or if it is coming from that relay ?

As long as it works, I guess it does not matter, just wondering. I got the review wireless camera, so I am ready to install. Going to wait till tonight, hopefully it will get cooler. In the 90's and very humid.

I wish I had done this work a month ago when it was cool.

Thanks again
