Hey kids!

Just got myself a '21 (gen 2) Venza and can't believe what a bargain this vehicle is! Never thought a Toyota could be this luxurious!

Purchased used with 31k miles from a Ford dealer-- clearly a trade-in. Took it to a Toyota dealership to run a multipoint inspection and was told it needs the following routine items done at 30k miles:

• Alignment - $140
• Brake fluid flush - $172
• Fuel Injection System service - $260
• Rear fluid differential service - $150

None of these items are listed in the maintenance guide (part of the hardcopy OEM literature)! Am I being duped?! It strikes me as odd that you'd need to service the differential so early on... Could there have been service bulletins for these items post production??

Thanks y'all!

Am I being duped?
Yes you are big time!!!

-Alignment?
do your tires have uneven tread wear?
Does your car pull to the left or right?

- Brake fluid flush?
After 2 years? don't think so....

-Fuel Injection cleaning?
the engine having both poor and direct injection, I would imagine the carbon build up is minimal... at least at only 30K

- Rear fluid differential?
Seriously, this one is the worst!!!, this card does not have a rear differential....
I just checked and there is actually a rear differential....It is part of the rear motor..It is supposed to be replaced between 60K an 90K...not 30K

I am myself approaching the 30K service and I will do only what it says in the Toyota service guide...

I do the oil change every 5K and every time they push for a wheel alignment.... that becomes ridiculous...

When I was at the dealer for my annual inspection the tech said I passed, as he checked off all the boxes on his to do list but indicated I needed an alignment, and I politely declined. I had new tires installed this past Nov, road force balanced and they will be transferred over to my ‘24 Venza. Having had to extend my lease payments (Dec 04) for 2 months till Jan 19, I said I’m not spending anything more on that ‘21. With 42K miles they can deal with it, when they either sell it as is or wholesale it at an auction. If these Venza’s are so in high demand they will likely spend the time and resources to make it so it can be a profitable turnaround for them.
When they get a lease return they always give them the once over and if it’s a cream puff they will definitely get it nice and purty. lol
For the non Toyota trade in, one has to ask the obvious question, why did that Venza go to a Ford dealership ? What was wrong with it ? But now that it’s been examined at a Toyota stealership, it looks like you’ve been given, possibly a bill of goods on maybe necessary upkeep. The only thing that you may need on that list is an alignment. If the previous driver wasn’t careful, hit curbs, pot holes etc, maybe that would be allowed. I was careful and didn’t do any of those things and at 40K miles there is no visible wear signs on the tread the service advisor claims. So I know these are the games dealers play trying to squeeze more $$$ out of you. When I explain I’m turning in the vehicle shortly, why would I put myself in debt unnecessarily ? They make a profit on everything they offer there, so when the 2 year comp’d service is over I keep my expenses on the down low. Just the bare minimum, 5K OCI, w/ rotation. Everything else they’re offering, is me getting hosed.

Find a new vendor. There may be merit to 'base-lining' but not at 31k miles. I'd not-so-boldly suggest you need none of those, by anyone. Similarly, I'm going to inspect my mom's brakes today because she went for 'routine maintenance' and got $1200 or $2000 worth of suggestions on a Lexus. Still not needed, but I'm going to double check. Stealerships are ruthless. I defer to manual: Toyota engineers know what they are doing, flunky 'service rep' at stealership is between jobs trying for commission.
