So when I got my 2001 Corolla I never noticed this red LED in my car and it turns out after opening the bottom dash that I have an alarm system. The main unit says KARR on it but that's it, no product number or anything, and the shock sensor apparently comes from audiovox. It's all hooked up and looks ready to go but how would I work this? I was going to add in my own but since there seems to be one here already then I don't think I have to.

When I turn on the LED using the button behind it, I hold it down for a couple seconds and it lights up.

Yup thats an alarm system. Really crappy they didnt give you one fob for it as it will make using it difficult. So attached to the brain you should find a button. Dont play with it!! Look for a model number karr systems are also audivox i believe. If you can confirm a model number with the fcc number you can buy the fob on ebay type place use the button to program it and voila a alarm or starter :) however until you get it sorted there are issues like the imobilizer. Look under the hood for the siren. Should look like a small megaphone if its not there (usually on firewall) then its likely just a starter which is good news. If it is there most systems will allow you to put them in whats called vallet mode for service. To do this insert the key turn car to on but dont crank it. Then back to off. Do this 5 times within 30 seconds and your blinking light should turn solid. If its solid your in vallet mode and you can work on your car.
This might take alot of online searching but if sucussful you will get a starter installed for really cheap. Take lots of pictures of the brain or shock pads if you find them to match online pictures of manuals on how to program and good luck.

The KARR alarm is a common in 8th gen corollas. I have the same alarm driving off the dealer's lot when I bought the car.
The alarm is hook up to the horn for sound. If you have a LE or S model, the power locks would be hooked up also. The only thing the button behind the led does for me is turn the horn on or off for the alarm.

Yup that seems like how these are programed up to you if you try it but if your remote looks like option 4 then its not the stock version so your good to go.

Oh easy way to test the alarm is roll down your window. Arm the car then reach in open the door. If your car starts beeping congrats you found a alarm if not then its just a starter. Normally pressing two buttons together or holding one for "x" seconds will remote start a car. Try lock unlock its most common.

I bought a 2001 corolla 3 speed auto trans with 104k miles. I've been doing various inexpensive tune-ups and today I did the spark plugs (manual says replace at 120k but since I burn at least one quart every 1ki figured they'd look bad). I was shocked to discover Autolite XP plugs. I told my car to hang in there and added NGK laser iridiums stat. I gave it a test drive and gunned it from a few stoplights to see if I was lucky and it fixed an unrelated performance issue (long double shift from 1st to second gear without high rev slipping). It did not but I should get better gas mileage as the old plugs were white and had large gaps. Upon pulling in driveway I noticed my engine light popped on. It's the P0171 fuel too lean code. I feel like if I try to accelerate too hard several times this code will pop up (it happened once before when I revved the engine after installing an air filter). The first time the light went away a day later (I tightened the gas cap and drove like a grandma).

I didn't disconnect the battery when I did the spark plugs. Is the computer throwing a code because of the different spark activity? Or is it related to me revving the engine? Or should I not have talked to my neighbor while I was replacing my plugs (I'm not a great multi-tasker).
