I dont think they are on the actual mirrors but i could be wrong. I thought they were in the mirror housing?

 

Mine in the Camry isn't. It's in the body . I'm thinking it's not in her RAV4 either because when you changed the mirror angle it could affect the sensor. But I don't know , that's why I'm asking.

The sensors for the BSM are generally in the back of the car behind the rear bumper on the sides below the taillights:

It actually uses the cameras in the mirrors for blind spot monitoring. And FWIW if mirrors are adjusted correctly there is no need for those stupid stick on things. Side mirrors are not for rear view they're "side view" mirrors not "rear" view mirrors. Those sensors in the bumper are proximity sensors used during parking

 

Plenty of need for those " Stupid stick on things " as you call them ! I've successfully used them for years to prevent side swipes . I drove ambulances for 10 years and you really need them. Man made sensors can always fail , and I like to double check.

 

Never had a side swipe. Learned years and years ago how to use the mirrors correctly.

Blind Spot Monitor radars are installed on both left and right side of the vehicle rear bumper respectively. Observe the following photo to know the location of BSM radars.

• Keep radar and its surrounding area on the bumper clean at all If radar or its surrounding area on the rear bumper is dirty or covered with mud, the Blind Spot Monitor may behaves abnormally.

In this situation, clear the dirt or mud and drive the vehicle with the operation conditions of the BSM function for approximately 60 minutes. If the BSM is still not functioning, please have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.

• Do not subject radar or its surrounding area on the rear bumper to a strong

If the radar is shifted, the system may malfunction and adjacent vehicle might not be detected accurately. if above condition occurred, please have your vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer.
