Previously, Toyota had 90915-YZZF2 as PN for our spin on oil filter. I went to go buy a couple at my dealership and they changed the part to 90915-YZZN1 and the differences is significant when it comes to the size. The F2 filter is def bigger than the new one. I’ll take a picture when I get home. Anyone have any idea what cons there are for having such a smaller filter?

My 18 Camry SE also now changed to the N1 filters...

A design change like that is typically due to cost. Just a guess, but Toyota may be consolidating their engine filter product offerings to use a more common filter across the various engine platforms. I'm sure the filtration spec's on the media element haven't changed. Of course the filter volume is less. You can always go aftermarket to get the older larger version or change it more often if it bothers you. If it matters, Honda/Acura have been using peanut sized oil filters on their 1.8L engines for many years, without any issues. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem using it.

After comparing Toyotas smaller cars, a guy I knew told me that Toyota is consolidating platforms. They may be trying to streamline everything on a smaller level. My 2020 Corolla shares the same underpinnings as the new Prius. Like you said, they are probably making products across platforms similar to reduce costs.

It's basically the "Taco Bell" approach to the automotive world. Have 4 platforms and some different underpinnings and make 15 cars out of it.

Joseph, what you are looking for is something like this red rubber device below the holes - could be any color, I've seen blue, black... it acts to hold the oil in the filter and the main oil gallery in the engine so that on next start, the delay between oil getting pumped to the bearings is reduced.
In this pic, the screwdriver is pointing at it.
Some OEM filters are dropping it. I think Mazda doesn't use it anymore, wonder if Toyota is too. I think it has value.

The YZZF2 weighs 177.5 grams and the YZZN1 weighs 170.5 grams both outside of the box with protective plastic still attached
