Synthetic - either Redline or Mobil 1 both are awesome...use a K & N filter too. BTW my truck is all synthetic w/ Redline....but the last 2 oil changes I had to go w/ Mobil 1 cause we have to save some $$$. Getting married in May doesn't allow for the more expensive "Redline" right now. :nono:

If you noticed, you only rec'd serious responses from folks with less than 250 total posts.
This is because those here longer have posted relevant responses to this and similar questions many, many, many, many times.

The best answer is "it depends", but I suggest you use the SEARCH this forum button at the top of the root forum. You could search for Synthetic, oil, or "which oil" and get responses from a larger cross-section of the group.

Truly, in the end it all boils down to a few key points. 1st) Toyota states in their FAQs that you can just use plain old regular oil. These engines are built to handle it. 2nd) I've noticed with synthetic is that it doesn't have the thermal breakdown after a few thousand miles 3rd) In the cold weather it doesn't get highly viscous and take forever to lube the engine on startup. Which translates into less startup wear and better gas mileage due to less friction and resistance. 4th) As long as you get a major synthetic brand you should be just fine. In detail they aren't the same between brands but overall their performance is similar and after a few 100,000 miles no real difference. BUT I can guarantee a difference over regular stuff in the long run.
My point being, if you're like me and plan on keeping your truck for a very long time synthetic can be worth the investment. But if you lease or get new vehicles every few years then it's not really worth it. It's all in your needs.

The post after this will probably say: "It's freakin motor oil who gives a rats butt!"
HAHA

without any problems at all

i typically drive approx 250k to 300k +

i also use a stainless reusable filter
that filters better than the usual paper

Just changed to Syn

After 25k miles using Castrol GTX I decided to go with Mobil 1 synthetic. I use the Wix oversized filter. I have to say that the truck runs smoother with the Mobil 1. I was a sceptic but it really does seem to make a difference. I changed my rear differential fluid tonight. I had the option of Mobil 1 or Lucas so I went with the Lucas. The Lucas was more expensive but I drive 100 miles a day and can't afford to have something go wrong with the rear end. I'm pretty sure I can go 60k with the Lucas. It's sitting in the garage right now so I will know tomorrow on the commute in if the Lucas Syn made any difference.
