the Tacoma prerunner SR5 4x2 have buttons on the left hand side on the steering wheel, whcih I take it is for all the 4x4 trucks, since we 4x2 have those buttons as well but not installed becuase they are for the 4x4, does that mean we can convert the 4x2 into 4x4 ifwe wanted to, in other words can we make our trucks into a 4 wheel drive. Is that the reason why they left those buttons as an option for the 4x2

anyone have an idea (if possible) how much to install 4 wheel drive and all it's ammenities and where can you get it done.. I am guessing at the dealership:smokin: :smokin:

thanks.

yes i'm still stuck on the subject..:disappoin

they put the plugs there for cost efficency.

yes you can convert, but i'd suspect it'd be easier and most likely cheaper to just get a different truck.

i wouldn't try it

There's far more involved to converting a 4x2 to a 4x4 then just putting in some buttons. Also I don't think you'd find a dealer within a million miles that would even take on this monumental task. You'd have to swap in a front diff, a transfer case, a different transmisison (the rear housings are different on a 4x4), not to mention all the electrics just to get everything talking and on and on. It can be done, but for an 05 your better off just trading in and trading up. The cost would be huge unless you did all the work yourself, even then I doubt you'd come out ahead of a simple trade in.

Yeah man, like everyone else said, it would be a huge amount of money/aggravation to convert a 4x2 to 4x4. I've seen you post before about wanting 4x4, and you seem pretty obsessed w/ the idea. If you really want 4wd you're going to have to trade in, or sell. Just be prepared to take a big hit in the wallet. From the sound of your previous posts, this may be worth it to you. You should call a couple of dealers and ask them what type of numbers you're going to be looking at, and at least that way you'll know. As far as why those buttons are there, it's because it's cheaper to put blanks in those holes, than to have multiple styles of dashboards to fit all the different option packages.
