Do you prefer a Model Y or a bZ4X?

I thought this section would be endless by now. What is the latest on the release date and inventory? thx

My Camry Hybrid is taking so long to come in, maybe I should just switch lanes and start waiting for this.

Things that bug me about the bZ4X:

  • Those grey/black front fenders
  • No glovebox
  • No spare tire
  • No power passenger seat
  • No turn signal repeaters on the mirrors (at least not in the USA prototypes; international ones have them)
  • Odd gauge cluster
  • Unexciting numbers on paper -- horsepower, 0-60 times, estimated range
  • A name that sounds like a random part number, not a car

And yet, I'm still intrigued.

The first drive of the Solterra got me a lot more interested. Alex on Autos was prepared to be disappointed based on the specs on paper, but was surprised by the actual drive.

Here is what the Busy4Rocks is up against from its own line up. Filled up yesterday in my 2020 Corolla Hybrid and it noted 712 mile range. So would I rather spring big bux for a pretty cool EV dragster with no home charging for me and have to charge 3x ++ as much as a fuel up or stick within the Toyota hybrid family?

On the surface, I think that’s a pretty good guess. The wildcards will be
  • Subaru‘s pricing (not released yet, to my knowledge)
  • Toyota is offering a $2k less FWD option vs. Subaru‘s all AWD lineup;
  • The equipment mix is bewilderingly different between the two (at least based on the pre-production Subaru’s that were previewed)
  • How many will be available (Subaru stopped taking reservations at the end of Feb(?))

Also, how long before Toyota actually hits the 200k threshold seems to be one of wild speculation — Bob Carter stated that they should hit it by June (meaning the reduction to 50% credit would start Oct 1). One of the just-published reviews stated that Toyota stated the media drive that they anticipate hitting it by year-end. The estimates from those trying to calculate it from various sources (the IRS doesn’t disclose Toyota’s sales as reported to them) varied from “they hit it already” to looks like they just missed it in Q1.

Not than I'm planning to buy a Tesla Y any time soon, imo it's a cheap and incredibly overpriced car, but if I had no options left, I'd but a Tesla Y without a second thought due to the extreme ugliness of the bz4x.
And even if the bz4x were "the prettiest EV on the market" I don't see me paying 45K for a small car with cheap interior and 220-240 miles range.
I drove a Leaf, Tesla 3 and X and Audi e-tron and I like the Tesla X and especially e-tron a lot, but considering the price, imo both cars a way cheapened out and way overpriced. For 60K one can get a full size nicely loaded truck and use leftover 20K for gas. Than would be much wiser than buying an EV.
