Do you agree with him? Disagree? Thanks

Disagree.

Just like in the comments on the video, these lil motors are good for 300k mi & up, assuming oil changes and basic maintenance (and lack of blatant abuse, of course).

Our 02 has 270k mi & still runs like a top... many others here can say the same.

Unreliable? Only if you're patently unfamiliar with this engine would someone say such a thing.

That chain tensioner shown in the video @ 1:27 is like those on a 1zzfe. The bit about the timing chain stretch is true but not the milage. 100K miles the chain should still be well within specs. Officially Toyota says the chain is good for the life of the car which is wrong. I'd say around 200k miles is good but of course driving styles/traffic/terrain also play factor--and I'm sure many people @ 200-300-400K miles on their original chain probally say their echo/scion/yaris still runs great. 100K is too soon. That's closer to a belt mileage wise. Yeah that video is very misleading. It's a busted clock, right 2 times a day, and that's being overly generous.

Edit: The voice on the video sounds like Penn from Penn and Teller. Like the Allstate Guy (Dennis Haysbert), he has that no BS (pun intended @ Penn & Teller) authoritive voice which makes the information conveyed from that video even more tragically wrong.

I have a 1 NZ fe engine that has done over 235000 miles no problems with it till now recently I had started to lose power at around 400rpm I thought maybe cuz of the low gas recently filled it up works perfectly normal. The engine is perfect for people who forget to maintain their cars especially the oil change etc as I have drove 1000kms over the recommended time still works perfectly fine
