Third row seat removal, 2021 Hybrid

Just about ready to go from a 2016 4Runner to a Highlander Hybrid. One last hurdle. I can fit two mountain bikes upright, with front wheels off, clipped into some mounts, in my 4Runner. I have and use a hitch Mount rack, but for long road trips I like to keep my bikes inside, out of the wind and weather. The vertical space in the back of the 4Runner is about 6 inches higher than the Highlander. my thought is, if I can remove the third row seats and get that 6 inches back, I could stand the bikes up in the Highlander. It’s just the foot or so nearest the rear hatch that I need to extra vertical space. It’s just the handlebars that would be too high.

has anyone taken those third row seats out? What’s it’s like back there without them? thanks in advance!

A couple of people have asked this question in the past but no one has reported actually doing it.

A hybrid may be more interesting depending on where the batteries are.
