Well guys I have had my XR for 2 months I live in Austin,Tx if any of you live there this happened on parmer and I-35 goin east bound. The 18 wheeler cut into my lane causing me to quickly turn to the right to miss him then when I went to correct my back end fishtailed and I never got control back. I hit the curb between east and west bound lanes, then went into on coming traffic I was able to get past everyone safely (4 lanes of traffic) because their light had just changed green and they were not to me yet, after that I went over the sidewalk down a hill and hit a tree the tree caused me to flip once or twice I do not remember ending up with the truck landing on the 3 blown tires and the 1 tire still there. This all happened around 1145pm. I think they are going to total the truck the value is 18-20k the insurance company will total the truck if the cost of the repairs are more then 75% of the total value. The 18 wheeler never stopped to see if I was ok he just kept going. I walked away with one scratch on my knee and glass/dust in my eyes, the air bags never went off.... The insurance company is saying the wreck was my fault because I was the only one involved no one saw the 18 wheeler and their was no cameras at the intersection all in all it was a pretty bad night....... Its been fun guys, the good thing is I have gap insurance.

I had my right foot on the break my left on the clutch to kill the rpms also put the truck in neutral all I did was slide....I did up route the tree also I would guess it was about a 5-8yr old tree.

Damn mad, you really f**ked that XR up. Glad to see you made it out of harms way. Sucks that the truck driver just kept going, hopefully something works out for you. Now I'm starting to worry about my own safety as I keep hearing the air bags aren't deploying and your front end looked like it took a big enough hit for them to not do so.

Sorry to here all this. :sosad: Tractor trailer drivers did give a sh*t. They think they own the highways. At least your still here to tell the story. That is the most important part! Good luck! :)

I'm glad you're OK... that pisses me off so bad because truckers here pull that crap so often I now am constantly looking for it... the worst is here they will try to squeeze into a gap I wouldn't even come into in my truck... they just go on power trips because they're bigger, well maye that guy will jackknife one day and no one will stop for him either...

People in "BIG" trucks pierod are problems just yesterday I was driving in my pos ford focus and a nissan titan does the samething to me the 18 wheeler did to me. Got his rear wheel up with my front driver side wheel then just got over I had to move out of his way also with traffic all around me. Yet again he was in the far left hand lane and I was in the middle lane and he just gets over. I was hot

As a driver of one of these "BIG" trucks, Ive gotta comment on this one.
First of all, Mike, Im glad you're OK. Your truck is replacable, you are not. Some semi drivers do think they own the road and will just slowly merge into another lane and expect you to move. However, maybe the driver just didnt see you. I mean, come one, what kinda person sees another vehicle flip and doesnt stop to see if that person is OK. :dunno: I wasnt there, so I dont know, so I could be way off base though.
Now about the Titan, a lot of the times its hard to see smaller cars that are to the side of you when you drive a fullsize truck. A lot of the newer small cars are so small and sit so low to the ground that they are hard to see. Again, thats no excuse to run someone off the road, but fullsize trucks have a lot of blindspots and with how dinky the mirrors are on those things nowdays, it can be hard to see other cars sometimes (especially small cars).
A lot of times you have to drive defensively out there, thats one reason why I dont own a road bike. Ive always wanted one but there are waaaaay to many crazy people out who dont pay attention to whats going on around them.

people should have to learn to drive a full size truck before they get one... you can get after market blind spot mirrors on a full size truck for $2 and then not do this accidentally... I think 99% of the time it is some dude who thinks he is a badass and really is just mad cause he got shorted and his wallet's the biggest thing in his pants...

I have had small cars and small trucks along with big trucks and as a driver its your job to take that extra glance to make sure you are getting over safely and not putting anyone else in danger along with yourself.
+1. No excuses. My Grandfather was on OTR semi driver his whole life with 0 accidents.

You guys need to do a little resarch on the problems they have with big rigs traveling thru Birmingham, AL. They dump coils of steel on the interstate down there like every other day. And it's the truck drivers fault 9 out of 10 times. I swear to God, I was watching a news report down there about 5 years ago and one of the truck drivers was trying to blame the pedestrian traffic for all the semi wrecks. He actually said, "these people don't understand how hard it is to stop 80,000 pounds from 90mph." Gee, ya think? Maybe you shouldn't drive 90 in a 60 mph zone, genius.

IMO, the problem lies with the high demand for OTR drivers. Just take a look in the want ads. Besides general labor and medical jobs, OTR driver jobs dominate the ads. This puts a lot of guys(who have no business otherwise) behind the wheel of these rigs with a crappy piece of paper from Slippery-Rock Technical school saying it's ok.

Man, what a wreck. Good thing is that your okay man. Sucks it had to happend to a tacoma :(. But the good thing out of this is your still here man.

I always drive on the defense. Always checking the activity around me. Fuck using my cell phone too. I see dumb blondes on there cell phone while they grup on some food. I stay away from that shit. As for big rigs i always know that if they're in the left lane their going to want to get to the slow lane fast as possible, especially when theres traffic. So i avoid been in the slow lane or anywhere around those suckers.

I hope everything works out for you. Good luck.

People will cut in front of you no matter what they're driving. I'm on the road for my job a lot and I see it all the time. People rely solely on their mirrors and are too damn lazy to turn their head to look at the blind spot. Some don't even bother with the mirrors at all, they just decide they need to be in your lane while you're driving right next to them. Too many idiot drivers out there these days, it's scary.

Exactly.

Most of the time those blondes are SMOKIN' hot.

Glad to see you are here to tell the story!

GAP insurance is sweet.

Go out and reward yourself with a nice new car.

You do realize that Gap insurance will only pay the deference between your insurance settlement and the loan payoff and not replacement value. So if you put down a sizable down payment you're :argh:

Which is why I never put a large down payment on anything.

I only put $1000 on my truck.

I have GAP insurance because I have a massive negative equity.

My girlfriends dad owns a body shop and hes the one that I am taking my truck to he said after getting the truck and looking over it their was enough front impact damage to the truck that the airbags should of 100% deployed, so were going to let the insurance company come in and do what they need to do then we are going to contact Toyota and tell them what is up and we will take whatever steps are needed to make sure they do a recall of some kind....hopefully

If their is anyone else out there who has been in a heavy front impact wreck and your airbags did not deploy when they should have we should put our stories together with whatever evidence we have for Toyota and present our case.
