I know the functionality of the Tom's Scoops ™ are innefective for the turbo model as they were designed for the N/A model. My question is for those of u who somewhat like them, do u think it look better with 1 or 2?? This is a much argued topic, and the scoops are either a love em' or h8 em' relationship... So feel free to leave all opinions.... no feelings will be hurt here, lmao... BTW ™ is alt code 0153

well i beleive that they do have a function for the turbo. i have one on the drivers side. its for the intake. i think it helps get more air back there to help cool down. i think you need only one on the drivers side do to the intake. the other side is the intercooler. but if you have a spal fan for the intercooler, then there is no need for it. to me IMHO, one looks better than two. :whatwhat:

I have mixed feelinng on them... I can't decide whether I dislike them or if I do like them...

They do add a lil bit to the super car feel of it. I don't have one but i have been wondering the effectivness of them... I wonder what the dyno would say the gains are with none, one drivers side, one pass side and two...

Form follows function ... if there is no function, then the form is not attractive to me.
There is no benefit to using them, so I do not like them.

I had one 10 years ago and I would never have one again.
To each their own :)

Seeing as the car is sitting still on the dyno with no air flow (unless you add fans),
I'm sure the engine could less if that body piece is changed out or not.

Don't those scoops actually disturb the natural air flow through the engine bay?

It would seem to me that air flows up from underneath, and through the side intake, and then, up and out the top of the engine lid.

If that's true, the driver's side scoop would actually hinder cool air from flowing up to the filter. And that brings up another topic. How much does cool air really affect a turbocharged engine? The turbo compressing the air is going to heat up the intake air anyways, which is then passed through the intercooler where it is cooled, before it enters the cylinders.

Is any of this correct?

i like them but only if two of them are on the car and as to function you can just make a sheild to redirect the air flow coming in from the scoop to vent straight to the engine vent and said shield can work to block off the heated engine bay temps from reaching your air filterif its next to the out let of the scoop but i'm thinking of how this would work on a aw11 don't kow if you have engough room in the mk2 turbo to do all that

i like how it looks...its a great conversation starter with non mr2 owners..
i have to agree w/ that... i get stares on the freeway and just driving around... people always walk up to me asking questions about it.

as for functionability, if thats even a word... it prolly hurts as much as it helps...

i took a piece of sheet metal and cut and bended then plainted black and mounted it behind the inlet opening directing the air directly on top of the filter... also to keep engine's heat for contaminating the intakes cooler air.i think the shielding made a bigger difference than the scoop...

but i am willing to sacrifice the aerodynamics of it all for the attention.
