Whoa, holy 4 posts! The speedometer goes to 240 KPH but the limiter kicks in at 238 KPH. Still not bad for a 1.8 litre engine!

 

yeah so I hit enter a few times I haven't been able to drive an older XRS... still looking for that 180hp ride... I can imagine it really gets up!

 

i have gotten my trix to 116 mph but she stil had room to go

 

I drove @ 180km/h a few times and I already floored the pedal. It just wouldn't go any faster...Mind's just an XR.

and in California, cops are almost everywhere, can't really find a good road to test max speed and hard breaking anyways.

niiiiiiiiiice! yeah my wife and I have an '07 Trix wit lots of options and I took it out the other day and rteally opened her up on a staright away on ahighway... I got her up to just under 110MPH! she still had some room though... I stiull think she gets up to about 125 or so... I NEEEEED an XRS! anyone know of one being sold?

 

I got up to 110mph in my '07 XR before I got too paranoid about getting my second ticket in 3 months! It felt like I had more to go though!

 

In the owner's manual for my 06 Matrix XRS, it is stated, one should not exceed 130 mph in 5th gear. I don't know if that helps you at all, considering the car is a 6-speed. :smokin:

 

awwwwww yeah! sounds awesome. I am in the middle of looking to buy an XRS... I found a cleeeeean '05 XRS 6 speed fully loaded for 13980 USD (44K miles)... does that sound as though its a good deal? The only problem is that its is in another state... Looks like I'll be making a trip to Ohio! Remember, the XRS Matrix doesn't feel much stronger than the XR or Base Matrix until it gets to about 6300 rpms. It also doesn't get as good gas mileage either, but not that much worse. You also must use high octane fuel. But....I LIKE IT!!!

I wish I could open up my Matrix, but here in central FLA the cops are too frequent. I've only had mine to 110mph, then I shut it down. It got there quickly though. :clap:

yeah! right on man... when I bought my XRS, I was driving it back from Cali to TX, well I wa being tailgated by some pickup, some ford or something... i was doing about 75MPH in 6th, so when he didn't leave me alone almost to the point of follwing me... I punched it down into 5th, hit lift and popped it back in to 6th, I look down and I was doing 130-135MPH and the truck was just a small glare in my rearview mirror.. awesome ride! I love the lift on the XRS... hyeah::banger:

 

To shift into lift at 75mph, you would have to drop down to 3rd. When you do that, it's quite a rush. :naughty:

 

i drive a stock 2003 xrs with 6 spd. i have topped it out according to the governor, which is 138 mph, and that was in 5th gear. with some minor things, like CAI, exhaust, and new tuning (which could include removing the governor), i could see an xrs getting up to about 160, but it would have to work pretty damn hard to get there.

for all the matrix owners, there is another forum that i am a part of at www.matrixowners.com. it goes much more in depth on matrix (or pontiac vibe) issues, and seems to have more information.

 

A speed-cut controller will take care of that. I haven't really had the chance to top it out just yet. I know of an area, which is a long 8 mile stretch(and i'm guessing at that) that i've only done a few launches on. It's just hard to video and shift at the same time and keep the damn wheel straight.

 

any recommendations on the speed cut controllers? i wouldn't mind having one for the occasional time i get to the higher speeds like that.

 

Going 160mph in a small ass car is not smart. A matrix is too light to do 160 safely. Just my personal opinion...

 

160 mph is pretty fast for a trix but if you have 18" low profile tires, lowered, sway bar it shouldn't be that bad..im pretty sure it will hold up....i actually my trix is already heavy enough to surpass 180 km/h

 

a corvette is designed to go over 160, and it weighs in around 3200 lbs. is that still based on weight?

the matrix, even with extra power to help push it along will still have a hell of a time trying to make it up to 160, but i am willing to try to push mine up there when i get it built up.

It may be fine to do 160 in a matrix, but as well as being 400 pounds heavier than a matrix, a corvette is a ton lower. At high speeds air can get under your car and cause it to lift varied amounts. If you think it would work, go for it

 

With the money you spend trying to make a Matrix go that fast, you could easily become a Corvette owner

148? dont you mean 138? i hit 138 in 5th gear in my car, and it crapped out on me from the governor. i was sort of expecting it, so i then put it into 6th to see if i could get past that, but it wouldnt let me go up more. :sosad::disappoin

heh heh i took a run down Rt 40E towards frederick leaving Mitzis strip club in hagerstown one nite. as soon as i hit rt 40 i punched it all the way to the rev limiter, held it just under and kept it up all the way to frederick(about 15 miles). my XR will hold just under 120 without bouncing the rev limiter, and it loves it.

 

I thought I read it was 238 KPH which I converted to 148 MPH. Maybe you're right, bottom line is there anyone that can prove me wrong?

 

i hit the governor in my xrs @ 138 on my way up to school one day. i was expecting it the first time i hit it, and i was in 5th gear, so once it cut out, i immediately shifted to 6th, but it still wouldnt put the power back in until the speed went down a few mph.

Try out a great hill here in British Columbia if you can stand the excessive dangerous driving rap. It just went up to $300.

Its on the Coquihalla Highway (The Coke) 7-8% grade downhill for 5 Km with a few gentle curves thrown in to make you adrenalize. I'm sure you will do at least 230km/hr.

 

There is a REASON for the limiter......its for the safety of the car and occupants...either the tires ARENT rated for a speed any higher, or the aerodynamics arent safe above that, or even more importantly...something you guys DONT think of...many cars can ruin drive axles etc if spun at a speed OVER what it is safe to spin at. Its a machine, and the manufacturer puts the limiter in for a SPECIFIC REASON, not just to make the car go slower.
