I have a 2024 GH Hybrid Limited with the factory installed dash cam. Wondering what the largest memory card size you have used in it? I currently have a 32 gb and it seems to work just fine, but would like to put in a card with more memory if it works.

Also has anyone been able to view files from within the app? I can connect and customize options in my app but have never been able to see any files that are on the card. To view the files I pull the card and watch on my desktop.

In my experience with dash cams, you only need the files that were recorded until your sure there was no issue recorded, so in most cases, most dash cams can record over the existing files as they run out of space. I don't know if the Toyota dash cam has that capability, but you can research the actual recordings on your memory card and see if they are overwriting. I've never (in six years of driving with a front and rear recording dash cam, never need to go back more than a week. This negates the need to buy and use massive memory cards, unless you want a recorded record of everything for a much longer period of time.

128gb is the largest size that will work and is what I currently have. The 16gb card that comes with it doesn't even record a full day if there are locked files from emergency or parking events that haven't been formatted for a couple of months. I found out the hard way when I didn't have footage that I needed from just one day earlier because the 16gb size was so small. I didn't realize that it only came with a 16gb card until it was too late. What a joke!

With 128gb, I now have enough storage for almost a month of driving footage even with locked events.

To view the files on the Toyota Dashcam app, you need to make sure you turn off your phone's Bluetooth, as it will try to connect to your car and then your car's Wi-Fi will fight with the dashcam's Wi-Fi and kick you off the camera. You can view the video files on the Toyota Dashcam app, but they are 3 minutes long and take a very long time to appear using the camera's Wi-Fi due to the file size. I use the time stamp to locate an event and just download the clip to the app. Once the clip is actually downloaded to the app you can view it quickly on you phone. As you have found out, it is quicker to view the files on your computer as the thumbnails show up almost instantly so you can find your event.

I also have a FitCamX dashcam and prefer their app over the Toyota one. The size of the clips are adjustable and I have mine set to 1 minute. This allows the thumbnails to show on their app quickly and it's easier to find the event you are looking for. I kept the Toyota cam because it shows speed and GPS coordinates and has parking mode and the FitCamX does not. I like having the redundancy of two cameras, especially since the Toyota cam didn't have the footage I needed once, but the FitCamX did.

Thanks for all the great info! Planning to take a few long road trips and I'll plan to go with the 128gb card for the same reasons. The FitCamx is also on my radar....seems like a simple and effective camera.

According to the manual, page 41:
  • Memory Card: Industrial Grade 16GB Class10 MicroSD (Max 128GB, FAT32 Format)
That said, no, I have not tried upgrading the card yet. After more than a year driving my GHHM, the stock card seems to keep up with my needs. The normal and parking recordings are automatically deleted when space is needed, and that pace has been more than sufficient.

I use the Android App, and have viewed video through it successfully. Rather than view video through the App, though, I usually use it to download the files to my phone, then shuttle them to cloud storage for viewing on desktop. I wish the entire App experience were a little more streamlined, as its just inconvenient enough that I don't check it often.
