I know @funman1 created a plug-n-play device for the 2017+ Highlander to disable start/stop, so if you want to easily install it, go ahead and purchase that here.
I'm here to share this info if you like to DIY. I bought a time delay relay device online. There are cheaper models but I bought this one because it has a case and looks decent. It's a universal device that you can use for a lot of things. It's also programmable and we can program it to simulate a button press as if pressing the start/stop button.
I used 18ga wires and crimped on male terminals. I didn't want to cut into the original wires so this was the next best thing. I plugged the terminals into the backside of the connector that has the pink and brown wires. Used a cable tie to wrap it just in case it slips out, but it's a tight fit in there. There's a good spot for the relay device to sit on, just use some double sided tape.
I've programmed the device to countdown from 10 seconds, then activate for 0.5 second. See video below. You'll hear a click from the relay activating. Not sure if funman1's device does that. You can always reactivate Start/Stop by pressing the dash button.
One great thing about a time delay relay is you can use it for ANY car that makes you push a button to disable Start/Stop. I bought it because this Highlander is not my personal car so I didn't want to spend too much money on it and I can easily remove it in the future for the next vehicle that has Start/Stop technology.
Fairly simple process and it'll take about an hour to get it up and running.
