A friend of mine has a 2009 Lexus IS350 and I've noticed how similar the stereo/HVAC unit is between it and a 2009 Camry. Yes, the systems look COMPLETELY different and, yes, I'm sure that the wiring is also COMPLETELY different, but has anyone heard of or ever tried modding a LEXUS headunit/HVAC controls into a Camry? I'm sure there are many differences in the wiring between the two, especially when it comes to the HVAC controls; I was just struck by how similar the shape of the units were. Although, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since Toyota makes Lexus.....

Check out this image. The shape looks fairly close to the Gen 6 camry....

please tell me this can be done. i would love to have the ES head unit installed in my Camry. has anyone done this ?? i was also looking into purchase the ES350 chrome door handles but cant seem to find a place online to purchase them. i called my local Lexus dealer and the punk over the phone was rude and wanted $225 per handle.... he didn't even want to give me the part# how lame...

I would get an aftermarket, but I dont like how bare the radio looks when you do that. the ES system setup looks so slick, there's got to be a way to do this; I'm sure it would be QUITE difficult to get all the wires placed correctly, though.
you could always do somethin spiffy with the plastic install piece around the aftermarket HU like paint it or wrap it in suede or leather. it would give it a nice custom look, especially if you get matching fabric on your seats, door inserts, etc.

it can be done... i can turn my camry into a Hummer if i really wanted to, but damn, that's gonna be a hell of a lot of custom work.

The design team who designed the Lexus' probably designed the Toyota's as well. Or at least shared ideas, hence the similar look. But if you want to custom fit Lexus parts into your Camry, more power to you.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Aint' that the truth!
On a serious note though, I have no interest in making my car look like a Lexus; thats why I bought a Camry. I just happen to like the center console for the Lexus more than the Camry's. Was it something that would have led me to spend $10k more for? Hell no! Is it something that is do-able with some aggravation..yes it is. From looking at the plugs in the back of the unit it appears that all of the stereo plugs are identical..the HVAC plugs are another story. I may try plugging in as much as I can and seeing what works. I'm not concerned about making every function on the Lexus console work..I dont care about the dual climate control, etc. As long as the on/off, temperature, and vent selection controls work, I'm happy. I'll give it a shot with a junkyard piece I was able to score and post something back here soon.
