Vehicle Speed Sensor Covered Under Powertrain Warranty?

As the title states...

My sister's 2016 Camry with 37K miles just got a CEL with the error code P0500. I was wondering if anyone had warranty repairs done on their Camrys for the vehicle speed sensor. I called the stealership and they said it would cost $175 to diagnose if it was covered under Toyota's 60K powertrain warranty and if it wasn't and decided not to do the repairs there, they would charge me $175 for the diagnostic. If it was covered under warranty it would be free.
I've checked on RockAuto for an aftermarket replacement VSS and its $160 while the OEM NTK is $310.
The question is, should I take the risk and bring it to the dealer to see if its under warranty? Or take it to an independent shop for diagnostics first.

Thanks for looking!

EDIT: I'll check to see if the connection is loose but was just trying to get a second opinion!

I called a service adviser at the dealership and he said they would have to check. He said it should be under warranty because it affects the transmission but he wouldn't be able to tell unless he diagnosed it. My sister also told me the CEL came on when she was stuck in traffic and not while the car was moving.
