Hey
I'm new to toyotanation but very glad to find a place to talk about my Toyota. I bought a 2015 Corolla in August only to find a very weird bifocal/magnifying glass effect right in the center of the driver's side of the windshield. It was almost like looking through my grandmother's reading glasses and the end result was a full-on migraine after driving the car for more than 10 minutes. Took it to dealer, they saw it too, replaced it, only to find that the second windshield had the same problem in a different spot but still was undriveable. Again they agreed with me and replaced it a second time. Now the THIRD windshield still has issues!! It's better and doesn't immediately give me a tension headache but when driving it's like looking through water or very thin glass, and it makes the treeline, road, and even other cars appear like there are waves running through them. I'ts really like looking through an aquarium or something. It's so bizarre, I've never seen anything like this before. Toyota is refusing to replace the third windshield and so i'm stuck replacing it on my own with aftermarket glass, but this carries its own issues.

So, my question is has ANYONE else seen this in the OEM windshields on the 2015 or 2016 model?? Asashi Glass Corp is making the factory windshields for the new models, in the past i think Toyota has used Pilkington, not sure. Regardless, something very wrong is happening during manufacturing of the windshields and Toyota is still slapping them on all the new models. there are some smaller ripples over on the right side of the windshield too that the dearlership did see, and the explanation i was provided with from the dealership AND corporate was "we compared your windshield to some other 2016s on the lot and the ripples appear to be an effect in all of them so, unfortunately nothing can be done." I've never had a company admit fault and then refuse to do anything about it. I'm just left scratching my head over this one.

I wish it were just me but others see it too. The third windshield is more subtle than the first two for sure but still looks like you are looking through water. Everyone at the dealership saw what I saw on the first two windshields. I really don't think I have 'sensitive' eyes, like I said, I've never noticed this before in any other vehicle. I had a 2015 corolla loaner for 3 weeks while my car was in the shop and that was fine, everything looked totally normal. So I took that to mean that there's just a lot of variation in these windshields. the problem now is that I can't live with the waves on my current windshield for the life of the car so I'm seriously thinking about having it replaced with aftermarket, Pilkington I was told.

All the windshields have been AGC, including the one on the loaner that was completely clear.

I personally would stick with original manufacturer. Since this is not an option for you it is hard to gauge aftermarket windshield but maybe someone here might know more about aftermarket windshield. On original manufacturer, usually every glass on the car has a manufacturer stamp on it for reference. I haven't look on the stamp for a long time so I don't remember who the glass manufacturer for this car.

I periodically see a vertical "wave" pattern on the bottom right side of my 2015 Camry XLE V6's windshield. It almost looks like heat distortion. My dealer's service manager saw it and said that he would be willing to submit a request to regional management but warned me (legitimately) that replacing a factory windshield was always a risk and that it might not be as good as the original. I decided that since the distortion was not constant and wasn't in my direct field of vision, I would live with it for now. If it were to get worse or appear more on the driver's side I might change my mind. My model has the noise limiting windshield which has, I believe, an added layer between the laminations. I had thought that this may have been the cause but since you see on on now three Corolla windshields, maybe not. This sounds like a class action suit waiting to happen.

That is very strange! My windshield has no waves, it's a 2015.

One suggestion I have, if possible, would be to maybe try a different dealership? I had a noise issue with my scion a couple years ago and the dealership right down the road from me refused to do anything, they said it was normal, but the dealership about 30 minutes away fixed it for free.

So trying another dealership would be my suggestion. Other than that, I'd say try safelite, they replaced my Prius windshield, did an excellent job and if I remember correctly it was Pilkington

This effect is called a slight windshield "prescription". My 2015 Corolla's windshield does not have this issue though I have seen it in the past on some other cars I have owned in the past.

I would bring this to the managers attention and if nothing is done and it is a potential safety issue, that you would be calling Toyota Headquarters directly to report them.

At least they should have tried a different manufacturers windshield if they have already had two bad ones from AGC.
