I share a 97 DX with my Dad (182,000 miles approx) and I noticed that the last oil change was due 8/12/06 at something like 170,300 miles. Well needless to say that's a hell of a long time to wait to get an oil change. My dad has just been topping the oil off and checking it regularly. I don't know a lot about car engines, but this seems like a good way to kill an engine earlier than necessary, am I right, or is there no real harm in doing this? I really don't see why he does it. How much is an oil change, the cost of a new quart of oil?
