WeatherTech FloorLiner Problem

I bought the WeatherTech FloorLiners for my 08 HL Sport. The front passenger side fits perfectly, no gaps. The driver's side front however has about an inch or so gap on the door side. Anyone with WeatherTech FloorLiners have this problem? They sent me a replacement but it also doesn't fit as well as the passenger side.

Thanks.

So much for the "digital laser measurements" they claim on their website. Although I had a Weathertech cargo liner in my previous vehicle that fit perfectly. Not sure why there is a gap on the driver's side mat for the new Highlander.

Hi everyone,

I work for WeatherTech, and we're heading out today to fit a few randomly sampled Highlander parts into a bunch of 2008 Highlanders. Fitment results and analysis should be completed no later than end of day tomorrow. Please stay tuned!

Back from Toyota, and the issue seems pretty cut and dry. We fit one of the original prototype from the Highlander tool, and we fit two random samples from our warehouse. The original prototype and one of the samples (black) fit just right, but the other sample (tan) exhibited the issue cropping up here. There was a large gap along the outer wall caused by the part's outer wall curling inward instead of outward as it should. Results were the same across all three Highlanders we fit. One was a sport, and the other two were limiteds.

We will be examining our inventory to try and eliminate all existing deformed parts before they go out the door. Apologies to those who received defective parts. Especially the person who received two defective parts. If you have one of these defective parts, our customer service staff will be able to help you. If you have an issue already pending, then one of our CS reps will be in touch with you.

I have some pictures, but nowhere to host them at the moment. So feel free to email productdevelopment@macneil.com if you want to see them.

All the best for 2008.

I should be getting new WeatherTech Floorliners very soon for our HL-Limited. I ordered them last week so I'll wait and see if there are any issues and if so, I'll give Customer Service a call. I'm very impressed with the level of service this has gotten so far from WeatherTech so I'm not too worried.

I am having the same problem with my tan 2008 driver side Floorliner. I called on Saturday and the phone rep said that they have logged the problem and the problem is not fixed yet. So I guess I can wait until further notice. Is there a email address I should send a picture to?

Customer Service

Thanks mostly to this forum and it's users. I got an email from Macneil/Weathertech over the weekend. It said that they are shipping me a brand new set of Floorliners. I purchased mine in September. I noticed the gap , but figured "that was just the way it was" and went on with my life. Thanks to the proactive posters here, it prompted me to contact Macneil.

Many thanks to Macneil and their incredible customer service!:)

I ordered the same thing in grey and the driver's mat also doesn't fit well. It appears to me that, towards the back by the seat, it's simply to narrow to fill up the space.

In any event, I called Weather Tech and they said they'd call back when they have a definitive answer to the problem.

My replacements will arrive Saturday.
Will post my opinion on the fix
Installed the replacement mat for the drivers side front and it fits as it is supposed to.

First they wanted me to return the old ones (they would include return shipping via any carrier I chose (FedEx, UPS) what ever worked best for me.

I then got a follow on call saying that that would not be necessary and to just throw the old ones away.

Must say I am impressed with the customer support on this issue to date...

Has any one received the updated mats yet? How do they fit? I am getting a partial order delivered tomorrow. I believe it is the bedliner arriving tomorrow.

Got my cargo liner. It does not fit. Not impressed with the Customer service rep I spoke with. She had me confirm the part number under the liner and told me that I had the right one. No attempt to confirm whether there was a real issue. I had to offer to send pictures in. About the only thing that is right is the color. I will be posting the pictures I sent to MacNeil late today.

The problem discussed in this thread is in regard to the front FLOORliners not the Cargo liner.

I opted for the Toyota Cargo liner as the WeatherTech one had to be totally removed if you used the third row seat. The Toyota one comes in two pieces so you can still use the short piece when the third row is up.

I wished Toyota provided this product in colors other than black but I have got used to living with it with my gray FloorLiners in the Front two rows.

Here are the cargo liner pics.

By the way, I just received the front and second row floor liners. The front driver's side has the same issue previously identified here. Bummer!!!

What difference does that make? Will removing the factory carpeted cargo liner first cause the Weathertech liner to magically follow the contour of the cargo area? Take a good look at the pictures. I just threw it up there to do a quick check. Why the heck should I bother to remove the factory carpet cover if the weathertech liner does not fit?

Nohodas: The reason your cargo liner fits like it does is because it is made to accomodate the seat belts of the folded down 3rd row seat (for vehicles that have that installed). There is no getting around that. I do think, however, that if you slid your back seats forward a bit the liner would fit a bit beter towards the sides where it is buckled in the photos. My OEM Toyota liner (black) fit as yours does when I first installed it, but I managed to get it smooth.

ktmd, I did what you suggested and it does fit better, thank you. Overall still not happy with the product. The front passenger side and second row fit perfectly, just as advertised. The front, driver's side is about an inch too narrow towards the seat side and the cargo liner has its own issues. These things are going back Monday morning. I am sure MacNeil will enventually work the kinks out and will have a solid product in the end.

Ok, so I just received a replacement Tan drivers side floorliner for my 2008 Highlander. It seems to be the exact same problem with the fit. I will try to get a photo of it soon. The gap by the door sill is still a couple of inches off. I am impressed by the customer service so far, and I hope this issue will be brought to a resolution soon. Has anyone else received a tan replacement that fits tight?

Thanks,

Andy

I got a replacement also and it's only marginally better than the first one. The passenger side liner fits perfectly. The driver's side has a .5 to .75" gap on both sides. I can live with it but it could be better.

What a great site this is!
I wasn't happy about the floor liners we got but hadn't done anything about it either. I was going through the old threads & found this one. I e-mailed the company - here is their reply...

Thank you for your interest in MacNeil Automotive.

We have not made any changes to the 2008 Highlander FloorLiners. The issue that came up was due to improper storage of the driver's side part after the product was taken off of the mold. The problem has been addressed and we will send you a replacement driver's side FloorLiner to the address listed on your inquiry.

Please call us if you have further questions and we will be happy to assist you.

Best regards,

Derek

I had been waiting since the beginning of the month. I then wrote them again and was told they had not received the pictures of the problem (which I was told I did not have to do if they were not available and to throw them away since they were sending me new ones). I luckily still have them and can take a picture but what if I had thrown them out as they told me? Not very happy with them right now.
