What’s the purpose of this plastic hanging in front of the front tires?

It reduces ground clearance and scrapes on the ground when backing out of the driveway.
Makes me think I need an SUV to exit a residence with a very mildly inclined driveway.

I just tried measuring the space under it and it has just over 4 inches of ground clearance.
According to specs, the Corolla sedan should have 5.5 inches of ground clearance.
That low clearance may also prevent use of DYI oil change ramps unless you buy the special, pricey ones designed for super low sports cars.

Well, the tires have to touch the ground so I wonder if anything in line with the tires does not count in the ground clearance measurement.

it looks like they can be easily removed by unscrewing 2 - 3 fasteners with the JIS screwdriver or 10 mm socket of your choice to better allow for using your normal ramps.

I suspect they also deflect road spray from your front brakes.

I use rhino ramps.

Race ramps has a low profile ramp.

Harbor freight ramps

Has anyone here been able to drive an 11th gen Corolla sedan up a “normal” Rhino Ramp or Rally Ramps without the vehicle getting that plastic flap caught up on the ramp?
I would think a stock Corolla sedan should not need special ramps designed for lowered sports cars.

The angle is probably steep for your driveway. It’s a good indicator for when you reach the ramp.

edit : the rhino ramp and race ramps have very shallow angles for the ramps.

How I do it. I roll on a 2x4 with a length of 8 feet. The 2x4 is in front of the ramp. It’ll be 2 inches higher and you won’t hear the scrape.
