if ya really want a camry and dont care about the luxeries to much, either get a 94-96 camry coupe V6 or get a 92-93 SE 5 speed. those are what i would get, especially the coupe.

and yeah ull want to use ate least 89 but people still get away with 87.

 

V6, hands down. My 1st Camry was a '92 I4 Camry. Then years later got my current '96 V6. IDENTICAL (color, interior, everything) to the one you posted. I love the car. I'd never go back to the I4.

wow 33 at least you have had a variety, but yeah the V6 youve shown us is to much. one in great condition would be less then that.

For what you are paying, get a Gen 4 97-99 Camry.

I found a 97 XLE v6 fully loaded with all options w 130K miles if i remember for $3500.

Before to decide to buy either car, take them to a mechanic for a pre purchase inspection, its not very expensive, and well worth the money.

I would definitely go with the XLE V6. 121k on a 1MZ (if its had required maintance) isn't bad.... its just gettin broke in!:lol:

 

get one that best fits you and what you make of it. I have a automatic 92' 4 cyclinder Le with all powered everything and started giving me problems. I just recently baught the lowest of all 92' models 4 cyclinder (duno which model) [Cons]: it has no a/c, no powered windows/locks, it has 206k on the engine and my other has 194k [Pros]: has no powered window/lock problems to give me headaches because it's all hands on manual from opening windows to adjusting my rear view mirrors. [Super Pro]: best part is it's a 5 speed manual, less weight for my audio system setup to be added on, and takes off way faster. Also tranny is not slipping.

Kelly Blue Book for the V6 XLE is $4285 in "good" condition from a private party. I didn't check Edmunds. I know, I'll probably get flamed for referring to kbb, but it's a starting point. Anyway, that suggests the seller is asking at least $1k too much. If it's in good shape, I'd try to negotiate a better price. People generally leave some negotiating room in their asking price. If it's $5300 firm, then yeah, I'd walk. The price you quoted for the 92 LE isn't a steal either by the way.

As far as I4 LE vs. V6 XLE, I own both. Both '95s. For me, the V6 XLE is like stepping into a Lexus compared to the I4 LE. Don't get me wrong, the LE is a very nice car, but the V6 + leather + alloys, etc., make the XLE feel like a much more expensive car.

The LE will be cheaper to buy, cheaper to fuel, cheaper to maintain, and cheaper to insure. But, it's not going to be DRAMATICALLY cheaper on any one of those items. Are you looking for the most economical ride, or are you willing (and can you afford) to spend a little more for something you're likely to enjoy driving more (especially if you plan to keep it for a long time)?

As Eyeball96 said, 121k miles isn't really anything to worry about on a Camry. Especially if it's been well maintained.

The V6 XLE wins hands down for me too if you can get a better price. But, everyone, and everyone's situation, is different. You gotta do what's right for you.

 

I would try to find a stick shift camry.. it maybe rare but some locations does have it... you will enjoy a stick shift camry very much.

and it's an I4... CE model.. you'll save on gas and have fun driving it.

 

clean 95 i red one 2 door model over 2k miles from here where i live, they were firm 5k too firm for me to go down there and buy it; it's avery rare one; it's still there if you live by there go and try to negotiate.

That's what i said when i saw it. If the price tag was lower and the guy would negotitated with me on it prolly would've been mine now; cost 2-3k to ship here or 500-1k for me to go and drive back here.

 

For 5300 get a etter car to begin with.... or 2 camrys for that matter.

 

I don't think you could really go wrong with either one. i've been driving my dads 2001 camry CE to and from school for the past two weeks and it's been a really comfortable ride. i have an 06 honda civic ex coupe that was my previous daily driver but me and my dad are switching for a while.

I got that civic when i was 17 and i have to say in retrospect it was not as wise of a decision. while it was fun to drive and nice looking; the fact that anyone who got in the car with me was cramped in the back was annoying. as well was the fact that after installing my subs i had a much more limited trunk (though that's really the case in any car).
I learned to drive with my dad's camry, i've driven it on and off before when circumstances arose and my dad needed to take my civic, and now i'm using it as a daily driver for a 60 mile round-trip commute. it's only an I4 but it can still give me the umfph i need when i need it occasionally on the highway; and at 140,858 miles it's never seen better days.

as everyone has been saying, in the end it's ultimately your decision, but in my experience if you wanna hang out with your friends and just go cruising around town, a sedan is a much better idea. as well if you have any plans for a sound system.
in regards to the two camrys you've listed, go with whatever feels right. i agree 5300 is a bit much, but maybe you can talk him down. if not there are always more cars out there, take your time and make sure that you get a car that you'll enjoy for the next few years at least.

people tell me 5300 is too much to spend on a car thats like 13 years old. but it is top of the line, and around my area 1995-1996 camrys are always going 4800-6k with mileage ranging from 135-188k!!

Most people don't realize how well a Camry keeps it's value and raise an eyebrow when they hear a price, then we head out for lunchbreak and they understand why.

 

When I drive my Camry to lunch, I am embarrassed by the incurable dash vent squeak, and the strut thunking (bad strut mounts). But on the other hand, it has only let me down once in 6 years (bad distributor).

True story, no sarcasm intended. If a few people think it's fine to pay $5,300 for a car very common car that's 13 years old..............well then who can argue?

When I turned 16, I got a 2000 Camry LE. Fully loaded with leather seats, sunroof, alloys, all that other crap. It's been a great car, and the 4 cylinder is very cheap to maintain. I love my car, but the sunroof is either a hit or miss. Mine is broken, and it would cost $1300 to replace. Thank god it doesn't leak, but it's still something to think about. Also, ask the owner of the V6 if the timing belt has been replaced, since that should have been done somewhere between 60-90k (not sure about Gen 3.5). I would have it checked out by a mechanic to make sure everything is in top shape.

Regardless of which model you choose, you're making a great decision. These cars are pretty much indestructible (with proper maintenance and care of course) and the Gen 3 bodystyle is really beautiful. For your budget, take a look at some Gen 4 models as well (1997-2001) as they can be had for around $5000. Main difference being styling, larger interior, and slightly more powerful engines. milt has a good point there too. what are ya lookin for in a car? i mean with 5 grand you can get several different vehicles that are much more fun or better on gas. but if ur lookin for a reliable, moderatly powerful(depending on model), comfortable, practical, good on gas(either model respectivly). then the camry is a good choice. in that family you have a couple models that make it a little more fun to drive and look at(SE, coupe), or have better gas(4cyl). if your gonna go camry i say go coupe. ive owned one and its jsut a novel thing to have, most people dont even know they existed.

 

like i said, i know 5300 is steap, but around my area thats what youre looking to spend. you guys say to just try the next gen up for that much money, well the next gen up is usually 6-8k.

as far as coupes and manuals... i dont want a coupe lol. how annoying itd get to have to either get out the car or lean forward to let a friend in my car... not to mention id have better luck finding a 50 dollar bill on the ground than finding a 2 dr camry. and manual.. idk how to drive stick. and i dont have any interest to learn right now.

as far as other cars around 5k, what do i really have to choose from? i want reliability. i want to be able to drive and be like "whoa, am i really going 70mph? it feels like 40" i was looking for accord and camry. accords around my area unfortunately are usually 140-160k around here, for just as much as a camry (if not more)

 

then thats pertty clear waht u want and a camry fits the bill perfectly. that XLE looks nice and as long as its in good condition and the prices in your area hold true then its an ok deal. i had a 95 XLE V6 and i LOVED it was such a lpleasure to drive and was very comfortable, even after i added some suspension parts to it. i would however just look out side you area to see what else you can find just to be sure. in any case a V6 sounds like what ur lookin for, the power is descent enough. the I4 leaves people wanting more in the way of power but gas is better then the V6.

 

Camrys are expensive in your area.

I would suggest the V-6, I find the I-4 I have to be underpowered, though the I4 is reliable as hell and gets better mileage.

One of my friends actually bought an SVX and another bought a 318 for less than 5k. Mine was a hand me down from dad (free!) so I stuck with it.
