Hi all! I've been looking for a Sienna for some time now and confused as to what year would be the most reliable. I'm swayed to the 3.5 L, but would consider the 3.3 L. Any comments on issues/years?
Thanks

2004-2006 share the 3.3L engine. It's a great engine.

2007-2008 had some issues with VVT-i actuators(?), and oil cooler hoses. The latter are addressable issues. The former isn't that common.

2009-2010 are the best years. But, don't hesitate from the other years either if you can get them at the right price, there's nothing wrong with them.

I do my own basic maintenance, but a timing belt is way out of my comfort zone. But, I don't mind timing belt cars, since I'll get the water pump changed at the same time. Many water pumps will need replacement before 200K anyway, and it's not exactly an easy/cheap replacement on the 3.5L either.

On the safety front, side torso/curtain airbags and stability control were optional from 2004, but the side airbags didn't become standard until 2006 and the stability control 2008. A lot of used vans don't have this optional equipment.

2007 has the same engine as the 2008-2016 Siennas. It's just as good of an engine as the 2009-2010 models, besides the VVT-i actuator issue that doesn't seem to affect too many owners, but most (the overwhelming majority) of used ones on the market won't have the metal VVT-i or oil cooler hoses, which a used car buyer would have to factor in.
